I have been looking for the post as to why not use them in a CUCV. I lost the driver side a few weeks ago and had to get a new alternator. went to the local part store order had one the later that day. put it in got out of bind. then remembered that there is several post as to why not use that brand. but I cant not find them.
My truck is a 85 1028. the truck is my daily driver my only truck at the moment.
I will ask but I think the alternator is the problem. since I have put the USA Alternator on the charging system has been a mess. I think basically the regulator is not working right. The gage shows charging for the first few minutes after the truck is started then the needle drops to mid yellow range and stays there. run the lights they only run off the battery the gage keeps dropping and the lights keep getting dimmer and dimmer. then the next morning have to jump start the truck. Put a charger on for a few hours all set for day will start several times shows charging a few minutes then not at all. only been happening since the USA alternator was put on.
I have check the exciter wires they show good both off and running. after start in morning driver side alternator shows 14+ volts the pass side shows 29+ volts. but runs say 20 minutes driver side alt. shows 0 volts. but the pass. side shows 28 volts (from batteries I think) .any other thing I might be missing??
The reason I changed alt. was on the way home one night the gage drop in to the red zone when got in drive way open hood the ground wire off the driver side alt. was melted off and the case was melt were the ground stud come out. that's why I changed the alt. to begin with. until then no issue at all.
