Water in transmission

I am looking at a M1078 that has new tires, new tire seals, and a state title for $7500. CTIS is broken. He said it drives and stops. It has water in the transmission that has apparently been there a while. He described the oil's appearance as coloured like a strawberry milkshake. Is the trans as bad as it sounds? The seller says $6500 to replace by a shop. Does that sound right?

6500 just in labor. Gonna need a trans, lines and a new cooler too.

The seller says the coolant looks clean and thinks the water is from the prior owner fording without "the bell housing plug". I haven't seen it myself.
