Waterproofing soft top

Hey folks I picked up a Deuce soft top last year and just got around to looking at it this weekend and it was dirty and dusty and pretty much just plain filthy and you all know we cannot have that!! I then proceeded to soak it in hot water and soap then scrub it with a stiff brush rinsing in clean water very often till stopped turning the rinse water brown every time. I then mounted it on a truck to dry it in the sun and all looks great now! My question is I am pretty positive I have washed/scrubbed out any semblance of the water proof stuff that was originally on it so what can I treat the canvas with now to make it waterproof/resistant once again like when it was original?

Thanks much for sharing your thoughts on this one folks!

The question is did they originally use the same kind of compound they use for filson Tin pants or canvas wall tents? Linseed oil?

Canvac is what has been used forever on true cotton canvas, it doesn't work and wasn't made for newer polyester/vinyl that came out back in the 80's onward. I say this as some folks think any fabric covering on a MV is cotton canvas. On either warm water is best.2cents
