Cubdriver,

All of the basic Deuce Info (weights, lengths, payloads, etc) are contained in the "operator level manual". That means that it ends in a -10 - 1.

Page 2-22 will show the weights you are looking for. You can download TM 9-2320-209-10-1 here:

JATONKA's M35 TM download page

That TM, and the rest of the TM's on that page are GREAT reading for any Deuce enthusiast!

Happy trucking, and before someone else does it....

nopics Lets see some pics of this truck!

My A3 without winch tipped the scales at 14,100 without driver and full fuel load. Had to get a weight ticket to register it in Cali. Had to be violated in the rear ($$) for the weight fee because an A3 is too new to be registered as a 'hysterical' vehicle.

Register the GVW as the weight of the vehicle plus what you think will be it's largest 'normal' payload (IE, something less than the military on-road gross weight). I made the mistake of registering my first truck for the full 24,700 pound weight. Rest are listed for their weight and 2,000 pounds of cargo, and the tags are about $100 a truck cheaper, every year! YMMV depending on your state.

I fillled out my SF97 so it had the same data as the tags inside the truck. If anyone were to try to verify your weight unladen, they would probably refer to the data tag for the empty weight.

In NYS you can set your max weight when you apply for a Historical registration. This is because Historical registration mandates you not engage in activities that are considered hauling. I set my max weight as 17,990#. This allows me to carry the S280 and some "personal items" inside and still be under the 18,000# magic number here. Above that things get complicated and I wanted an easy time of it.

I have not a clue as to what Alaska does, and it may be a good idea to know how you are going to register the truck, historical or commercial and then fill out your SF97. This would be just in case you want to keep your registered weight under a certain limit perhaps to avoid an extra fee, or having a higher license class to drive it. Some motor vehicle departments go by the max weight on the title, regardless of the design or intended use anyways.

Hope this is helpful

here is the information from the manual. The previous post is not correct for a 6x6 deuce. You can subtract 500 pounds to the empty weight for a deuce without a winch, but the gross is still the same.

This is straight out of the TM 9- 2320-209-10-1

That's a bobbed deuce (4 x 4 is the giveaway), standard deuce (m35A2) is 13050 empty, add 550 for the winch, 350 for a full fuel tank, and 200+ for the driver.

This is correct. Go to JATONKA's site download the 9-2320-209-10-1. It is table 2-1 page 2-22. It shows with winch weights, you deduct 500 pounds for not having the winch. It also covers dimensions and bridge numbers. It's all there in black and white all it takes is 30 seconds to look for it.:deadhorse:

here in Texas the difference if you register a deauce for 2,000 load and a 10,000 load is 175.00 a year for 2,000 and 475.00 a year for 10,000. still below the 26,000 or 26,500 (not sure because i am below both) for it to be an automatic commercial vehicle. :cookoo:

Not all military manuals give the same information. The data plates in the trucks are sometimes different also. The 361-10 has a weight chart with the added notation to subtract 520 lbs for no winch. The 209-10 list an empty weight for my M342a2 w/w as 15,500 and the 361-10 list it as 15,775.
Below are a couple pics of 2 different data plates in a pair of M342A2 wo/w with 3,700 lbs between them.

On my current three deuces, I have one plated at 14,000, one at 18,000, and one at 26,000 gvw. I have a historical plate on my 915A1 at 50,000 gvw.

Unless you are going to put passenger plates on your deuce for weight with seats, you need to add some for a minimal amount of payload even if it is only tools and fuel and spares.

The purpose of the weight table is not to create a situation where we can sit here and split hairs over exact numbers but for an individual to make a judgement as to what weight will they expect to need to cover to be legal on the highway.

To take hair splitting to its ultimate end, the only exact way to determine the weight of any truck is a certified scale. No amount of data plates, weight tables manuals or speculation will be any more accurate than the actual weight of something like a deuce.

The fact is that the OP wanted to know how much should he register his deuce for in terms of total GVW. That has been answered several times by many well intentioned members.

I am not trying to rile anyone up at this point, but I am done with the discussion. I am unsuscribing at this point.

in Texas you have to get a weigh ticket from a certified scale to get the first title with an sf-97. the 13,400 & 15,940 were weight tickets weights. full of fuel 1 spare and no driver on the scale. then i added 10,000 carry so what ever stupid thing i decided to do i was covered.
