Why does this site keep signing me out?

I checked the little remember me button by the login stuff a long while back. As a result I have not had to sign in in a loooooong time. Now, not only do I have to after turning my computer off, now it is doing it doing the day while the computer is on. I think it a is a problem with my computer because it does it to me on other sites as well. What could be the cause and how do I correct it?

If you are using Internet Explorer, under Internet Options there is a button to clear your history, cookies, temperary internet files, etc.

Whenever you visit some webpages, the website will store a "cookie" on your computer. This helps them track where you have been on their website and make it faster to bring more info to you (very basic terms). Think "trail of breadcrumbs"

Sometimes this bucket of cookies gets overloaded and looses it way.

What version of IE are you using? IE7 or IE8?

You should be able to uncheck alll the other items except the cookies.

You have to do it (click it) everytime you log in.

If you either close your browser, or log off your computer, your login information could be lost, as the computer might automatically clear all cookies. It depends on your browser settings, and your computer settings, so without going into all the variables, just log on and click it, and don't close your browser if you think you might come back in short order.

It is best they clear automatically for security purposes, and also, to keep your computer from getting clogged up with nibble and bit sludge.

Now that helps.
Maybe not, depending on your viewpoint and what you specifically want to accomplish.

Clearing cookies will not help with the original issue reported.
If anything, it will be the problem. The cookie will remember you. If you clear it, it will wipe out your login and password info so when you bring your computer or your browser back up, the site no longer recognizes you.

I was undeer the impression, the poster was asking if you cleared your cookies, it could have been the problem with your not being recognized by the SS site, which would have been correct. Now, we're kinda going off course and explaining in detail how to clear cookies, when clearing cookies could actually be the problem in itself as to why you are not remembered.

Just click it everytime you log on, and keep in mind, if you ever shut down Internet Explorer, it may clear your cookies and that would be the problem. Also, if you ever shut down your computer, it closes all programs, and that includes internet explorer or any browser, in which case, it might clear your cookies, and the SS site will not be able to remember you.

Again, it is a good idea security wise to clear all cookies and history on a regular basis. I do it several times a day for the faster computer operation.
You don't want a bunch of cookies on your computer tracking your movements all day long, and, there are at least a dozen other reasons to delete them on a regular basis as well. I'm not going to try to cover them all.

This is a new problem. I clicked remember me and have not had to log in for many months. Now it does not matter if I click it or not, it does not remember me.

Not to disagree with a Super Moderator but that is not true about cookies. Not every webpage or website uses cookies. Cookies have to be specifically created and sent to the browser.

History is created for every page (unless using private browsing) but not cookies.

For Flash (Super Cookies) or LSO cookies you will have to do a search as there are just too many ways to skin that cat.

Yes, you likely changed something on your computer, like upgrading your browser, of changing the config settings on your browser, or on your computer.
Like I said twice now, if you delete your cookies, it won't remember you. And if you change out config settings, or browser, it can affect it.

It remembers me, if, or when I want it to. I don't see this problem/difference as being the site.

After seeing Dell's latest post he is correct and it is yet another reason I switched from Firefox to Google's Chrome Browser.

Not that the logging out bothered me that much but now I can reboot and I get right back in to SS when I fire up the browser.
