Winch shear pin connnction stuck

When I got my M35A2, the winch shear pin had been replaced by a bolt/nut. I went to remove it and had to hammer it out with a punch as it had been bent/deformed (presumably from load on the winch). The holes in the outer sleeve and the inner bar are not quite perfectly aligned, so I can't get a real sheer pin back in there. I couldn't budge the thing by hand, so I hooked the winch up to another SUV and planned to put a little bit of tension on it to hopefully slip the matting surfaces. Even without any pin in there, the winch started to drag the SUV, so I stopped. Any suggestions on how to free the two parts up? Should I just try to pull the whole winch off and put it back on?

A bit of PB blaster over a few days and love taps on the yoke SHOULD loosen it up unless the shaft holes have elongated and dug into the yoke. If thts the case, again, the PB Blaster and a hammer to try and turn the yoke backwards to align the holes.

Patience and tenacity will be your friend. Turn the shaft backwards.

Find a local freindly tree, or similar and winch that. It will come free. Or a long winded way unwind and give it a 'tug' in reverse.

I would not pull on the cable to try and reverse the gears. If you have to spin the shaft then just use the pto or something on the pto shaft itself to spin it. Bust the gear and you will hate yourself and not proper way to get the drum to move.

I seem to remember driving big chisels in between the yoke and the bolt heads on the bearing cap. Maybe heat it as well.

The advice above is all good and I should add something.

If the holes in the shaft and yoke are elongated ("wollered out"), it will consistently break sheer pins. The pin will constantly be shocked by the freeplay and break. Replacing the yoke isn't hard (and I guess you could drill a fresh hole 90 degrees off) but if the shaft is messed up, I'm not sure what an easy fix would be.

I have one that is frozen too, beat on it and soaked it many times, it's so stuck it even winched another deuce onto a gooseneck float without slipping!!! One of these days I'll try to pull the shaft and or winch.

Just asking did your drive shaft have the locking collar at the PTO end. That collar locks the shaft forward with just a little slip for movement but holds it from ever falling out if the pin shears.

Yep, the PO gave me seals, boots (not zippered) and clamps with the trucks. He picked this one up from GL at San Antonio and it's got zippered boots on it now.
