When I placed the winch levers in operational positions the hyd oil flowed and the winch would not move in either direction--The inside of the winch looks clean with nothing broken--the spool does move with the lock pin pulled but the main gears will not turn--any ideas--thanks George

Pull the band brake cover off. Your band brake may have rusted stuck.

Just a good hit with a hammer and drift should fix that(if that is the issue).

Seen this a few times.

Follow the troubleshooting from Work Package #0059 from the TM 9-2320-272-23-1 which starts on page 607 of the PDF

Thanks for the tip ~ Doghead!

Does the gasket on the brake band cover plate just act as a dust and water shield? Does it require RTV or sealant?

Would it hurt to hit the assembly with aerosol brake cleaner?

I think it just needs occasional maintenance.
