I hope you find this information helpful. I wanted to give you another alternative to Gillespie Coatings and Aerovoe paint. The website link to cammy coatings is currently down, so i thought I would give you the info here:

Product description:

(VOC compliant phenolic alkyd primer coating)

Zero Rust is a truly high performance, easy to use, ferrous metal maintenance primer coating. Field and lab results are superior to all common maintenance primers. Independent testing has shown SINGLE component Zero-rust to exceed 2000 hours ASTM B-117 Salt spray testing. Similar results have been achieved over pre-rusted panels.

May be top coated with most generally available finish coat systems. For maximum longevity in high UV exterior exposures, we recommend the use of SA-3 Silicone Poly Plus and our fanily of "super Urethanes".

The Zero-Rustâ system has unique practical performance advantages over all other coating systems in terms of durability, resistance to undercut or “creep” and adhesion to surfaces with less than perfect surface preparation. However, Zero-Rustâ system longevity and adhesion are also increased by greater efforts being placed into surface preparation. Simply put, the better the surface preparation, the longer the Zero-Rust system will last. Keep this in mind when weighing surface preparation costs and system performance expectations.

It is always best to remove old coating systems. We always recommend removal of old coatings for maximum longevity -- it is the only way to be assured of proper bond, adhesion and performance.

However, we realize some people will not remove all of the original coating for a variety of reasons. When the customer or applicator applies Zero-Rustâ over an existing system, the customer or applicator accepts the risk of premature failure due to 1) adhesion loss of the existing coating from the steel, 2) adhesion loss of the Zero-Rustâ system from the existing coating or 3) rust bleeding through the original coating.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: The Cammy Top™ Camouflage Topcoat is an easy to apply, user friendly, single component coating designed for military field and shop maintenance applications. The Cammy Top™ is a durable, tough topcoat that is to be applied over the specially formulated Military Standard Black Zero-Rustâ Primer for maximum longevity (1 coat Zero-Rust Primer @ 2.5-3.0 DFT for 2-3 years; 2 coats Zero-Rust @ 4-6 mil DFT for 3-6 year corrosion protection). Cammy TopÔ has excellent adhesion and can be applied as its own primer (direct-to-metal) when short term protection (less than 6 months) is desired. This system is a flat or very low sheen system (sheen depends on military requirements for each color) which incorporates special "infrared signature pigments" meeting military infrared spectrum requirements as detailed in MIL-C-46168D(ME). The unique quality of this system when compared to all others lies in the fact that the Zero-Rust primer and Cammy Top topcoat can be applied to marginally prepared surfaces & dry in lessthan 1 hour in warm weather -- yet last for several years!

The Zero-Rustâ Primer system has been selected for use by the Marine Corps and other military branches for vehicular spot painting and other maintenance applications due to 1) its superior adhesion and toughness on marginally prepared surfaces based on NAVSEA & Marine Corps’s lab & field testing, 2) ease of application including spray can delivery, 3) quick system dry, recoat & cure times, 4) long life when compared to current field application options and 5) low health risks to application personnel . The Cammy Top™ Camouflage Topcoat incorporates most of the same desirable physical properties into the topcoat along with enhanced "UV" resistance properties completing this maintenance system.

After a phone conversation with a rep, i found out FLAT topcoats contain a flattening agent which reduces the life of paint. The SA-3 poly can be made semi-gloss, but not flat. Adding hardener to a flat paint might cause the paint to change to a semigloss.

In any event, it is always best to stick with one paint system. Follow the manufacturer's prep recommendations and you'll have a top quality paint job.
