I've been working on my 1986 M1031 SECM w/ Wisconsin gas and Hobart welder genset combo for last couple of months.
Problem I had was on initial startup, engine would shut-off after 5-10 seconds and would not restart without a couple of whiffs of starting fluid (please, no lectures on starting fluid and diesels - works if you don't go over-board spraying it...
).
Turns out the fuel return check valve (top front of the injector pump) was stuck closed.
I put a new one from my CUCV parts stash (Spaco 12287 or Stanadyne 23183 - NSN 4820-01-165-9596) and now my truck stays running after initial start-up.
Hope this helps.![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
