Hello,

Can someone tell me whether this is the prefered spicer u-joint on the front steering axle, or one of those other oddball older joints ?

Secondly, the Canadian M35a2's all came with spicer joints I would assume, since they were built from the early 80's. Correct ?

You posted the wrong pic. That one is just the upside down view of the drivers side knuckle with a little of the kingpin showing. Maybe someone can tell which joint is in there from that housing... ?

You can reach in there and feel it.

It's been my experience that if the axle is a Rockwell it's got the U-joint style. If it's a Timken axle then it will have the older claw type.

The detroit timkem axle company started in1949 with the first M34. Rockwell took over in early 1954 and the rezepa joint was used in all the gas engine M35 till 1965 - 1966 was the first diesel engine and with this came the U joint axles. Covell sold the military on the CV and they are mixed in though the '60,'70,'80. Covell is the best, stronger and no phasing as the shaft turns.
