Which tractor would have hauled the machine shop trailers of the 80's?
Most common tractor? or what y'all think would be best?
31K trailer

M818
M819
M931
I suppose a M915 is a possibility

The M818 or the M931 or 932 would have pulled the shop trailer. The M915 or M916 were for line haul units. The M915's and M916's also have commercial Freightliner VIN's and in most places cannot be registered without Commercial Plates. That also means commercial insurance from what I've researched and that get's expensive if it's just out of pocket for hobby use. I noticed your signature indicates you have a M931. That's the truck I would use for that trailer since it's on hand already. If you plan on pulling some "for profit" loads, I'd go for the M915 if you're staying mostly on road, it has a tighter turning radius as it's 6X4 rather than the 6X6 M916.

Depending on what I can work out with another member on buying his 939 series. I maybe selling my 818, and listing in classifieds soon. As far as which its probably more of a preference. I just starting to like the 916's over the 818's

Though not on BobH's list, why not a civy day cabber. Something similar to Clint's Blue Ford he had at the trail ride the past couple of years. You could paint it up blue and call it an Air Force tractor.

Just a thought

Find yourself an M52A2. They are cool trucks, are kind of rare these days, and have a nice sounding turbo! Plus, they would have been correct for the period, too. Everyone and their brother has an M818. Go with the multifuel...
