Obvious

I agree. im actually a very polite person and get along very well so i was really surprised when he singled me out in the line of cars and just started giving me trouble before i even opened my mouth.
Here is a video of it. I had only just started up maybe a minute before so the engine was cold, at the end of the video when its idling though even cold you can see it really doesnt smoke. Now revving it up is an entirely different story

To me the problem is obvious Sir!:!:
That truck is a mother****ing whistler!!!:x

I REALLY HATE whistlers!!!!

OK...I'm sorry...I better now:roll::roll:

Contact his supervisor.

You can avoid the problem, or try to correct/improve it.

Mine smokes at idle and when it's in a parade it seems to cool down and it smokes more....especially if I'm running a lot of WMO in the fuel. On the road, when the rpm's are up and the pyro show's some heat, it doesn't smoke....this is also when the turbo is actually making a little boost. I'd read that that's why they put the turbo's on them in the first place - because the non-turbo engines smoked like a burning coal mine, so they gave them a turbo with a little bit of boost to clean 'em up a little.
And mine whistles too - I like 'em that way; Smokin', whistlin', big green fun machines....

I can only speak for VA where I am a shop owner and inspector however from what I understand MD is very much the same. When doing an emissions test the equipment asked if there is "visual smoke" at the end of the test. This ONLY matters if it is a gas engine DEQ of VA is good with smoke for this truck!

Mine's a non turbo, burning 50/50 WMO and JP-8. Smokes like a locomotive climbing a long grade with a full load, burning soft coal.[thumbzup] At least while under a good load, going through the gears and not quite at operating temp.

Running diesel with a gasoline mix should clean it up for your test. We did this in Germany on a reforger deployment when we went through heavily populated areas. It was like a big parade and the locals got upset when we smoked them out. Our motor pool sgt did it to our trucks and it made a noticable difference. After the test you can top off with whatever you burn.

For what it's worth I ran mine about 10 miles toay and it hardly smoked. It's a "D" turbo.
A little white smoke at startup and a not much under acceleration.
Old diesel in it too.

My engine tag says "This engine is exempt from the prohibitions of the clean air act, as amended, for the purpose of national security". Oh well, that and $12.00 will buy you a cup of coffee.

I would love for that a$$hat to observe my 818 right now with the blown head gasket. It filled my 48x80 barn with smoke in about 10 seconds and will cover about 2 acres around it with enough smoke that you it is hard to see or breath.

I haven't tried turning down the fuel, there really is no issue, I just got all my filters so I am gonna replace every drop of fluid, pressure wash and degrease everything check brakes etc. I really don't think its any problem I wouldn't consider it any ammoint of smoke.

My deuce also has a LDS with whistler. Your smoke looks fine. Nice video and great sound. When we convoy down to Oklahoma, the other guys can hear my turbo over their trucks from several hundred feet in front and behind. I love my whistler.

My D-turbo with army-stock fuel delivery, running on straight Diesel will not visibly smoke at idle. It will, however, smoke a lot as soon as you hit the accelerator.
I had to have mine e-tested as well and, predictably, it did not pass. They measure smoke density from when the truck is idling and then the accelerator floored until the engine hits the governor.

I was cringing.

Trucks have to meet the CURRENT emission standards (no way a 1974 Deuce can). This means a max. opacity of 10. The Deuce blew 78, oh yeah!

I had the exact opposite experience of the OP and together we figured out that if my truck was a gasser (which it is...there is no Multifuel category) they could legally pass it by default. Done.

thanks! That video was taken just after i started it up so the engine wasnt warm at all, it does burn much cleaner when up to temp but i still dont see why there would have been a problem.

I wish i was lucky and got a nice inspection employee. I dont understand what the problem is. I understand if it was a gas engine, or if it wasnt 42 years old, or if it was actually pouring smoke out but i think its just one of those things i am going to have to go to a supervisor or other inspection lane for.
