WMO Power surge

I am having a problem with power surge it is like the fuel is cutting in and out. I hit all the usual suspects. Waste oil is thinned down to about 50 percent, 25 percent gasoline, 25 percent diesel. So I know it is not too thick. After all the fuel was blended together i let it sit for a month to let the water and sediment settle out then I pushed it through a 10 micron sock filter. I changed all the fuel filters on the truck. I checked the lift pump out to make sure the screens were clear and that it was working. I checked all my fuel lines in there are no visible leaks. The truck is turned up. But what kills me is if I run it on straight diesel it runs like a scalded Ape! Anyone have any ideas?

If the FDC has been bypassed then it won't run as well on other fuels as diesel. FDC corrects for fuel density so that you get even power with mixed/other fuels. My FDC was bypassed by the military. I've run on other fuels with only a slight power loss. My mixtures were only maybe 20% other fuels. Try a higher concentration of diesel instead of 50% try 75% and see how it does.

Your primary filter is sucking in air......Change the gasket and make sure you torque to proper specs.

Not always....the lift pump might not push out enough pressure to push out fuel...but the IP could pull just enough vacuum to pull in air which is thinner than the fuel. I had this same problem ONCE.....now I have a spin on primary so no more problems like that.

I should have asked, the truck is turned up...BUT is the FDC bypassed? on mine it made the difference(mine is bypassed) the oil being thicker will work against you with the fdc. Also what exactly where the chain of events? Change filters, put in this fuel, have problems? or in some other order.......the reason I ask is you might not have gotten ALL the air bled out if that is the order of your actions.....you might have to run it a little longer to get the air finished out, the oil is a little thicker so more time to bleed.

Your primary filter is sucking in air.......
Regardless of what is in the tank the intank pump should provide way more flow than what the engine ever needs; always at a min. pressure of at least 5psi, even with the gas pedal to the floor.
This can be checked with a pressure gauge tee-ed in at the booster pump inlet port.

I get a surge of power when my primary filter is starting to clog. About 50-100 miles later it will surge then lose power. Not uncommon with waste oils on my truck. Sometimes have to change secondary filters.

Rrrr - The FDC is on the truck it doesn’t look to be bypassed.
Hoop – thanks I will try the changing the primary gasket
Eagle4g64 – truck runs great on diesel. I put WMO in and it started surge. I change filters drive for 30 min no change. I pull WMO out of tank, put in diesel it runs great again. Ran that till the fuel was low put WMO mix back in. Before I make it to the end of my driveway it’s surging. Change out primary and secondary fuel filters. Had a friend tell me to check the lift pump out. Then I went through and tightened the fuel line connections. Drove it for 30 min, surged any time I get in to the gas time.
thanks for the help... im out of ideas. so i will try anything.

I would bypass the FDC and try that out. It made all the difference in the world on my truck when I started to use WMO and all the other stuff I can find(even gear lube).

Anyway, the FDC is there to help like Rrrr said, BUT.....it sees oil as a thicker fuel so turns down, like it would for diesel....which is thicker than gas which it turns up....the problem is that it needs a little more oil to run, just like if it were gas(not as much as gas) but I think you get the picture.

So like I said the FDC WITH motor oil works against you, not with you. It is starving for more fuel, when you are running the mix.

maybe this may be it maybe not. but my truck was surging when I started it up after a week. I just did a fuel and oil filter change. well I checked under the hood and my fuel line from the filter was loose sucking air. i would check that out maybe thats it.

Thanks guys i got it fixed. It was the fuel filter housing gasket sucking air on the primary filters. 1 of the filters had the gasket doubled up in there and 1 of those was tore in half.

Now I am confused....There are only 1 primary filter. There are 2 secondary filters. The secondary filters, should be under pressure, while the truck is running. If I remember right about 65 to 70 psi.
If you have really fixed it good, but if you just have not replicated the Power Surge, and it comes back, replace the primary filter gasket.
