I have a M-1028 I am painting next. When I went down to the GA Rally last year I picked up a 383 green CARC paint kit, Came with 5 gallons of 383 Green, 5 gallons of deionized distilled water and 5 gallons of white primer. I am very familiar with sand, prime and paint. What I am not familiar with is the use of CARC paint.

Why would they have deionized distilled water instead of normal water....?

Is there a special application process in the use of CARC other than the normal precautions..?

I will post pictures of the prep and paint. We are also installing the DIY Rock Sliders I got custom made from Shakeum. This is going to be a cool project to work on in my spare time. Pictures to follow.

First, I dont know.

Second, I would imagine they use water like that because it will have a longer shelf life than tap water and since it could end up sitting a while they would want the stability.

Third, you can charge more for it since it is "value added" water.

I would love to get my hands on a paint kit like that. Any ideas of where there might be another one kicking around?

We are removing the fuel transfer tank, blasting the bed, repainting the bed and tank 383.

I am torn on the slider color, make it Green to match the truck or Flat black to go with the bumpers and grill gard..? Any suggestion would be helpful........HELP..!

The original bench seat sux, so we are replacing it with a set of NOS HEMTT seats. These rock, they have a lumbar position, black cloth not vinyl, slide front and back and slide up and down. Not bad for $50.00 each.

Hello Don,

Those seats look good, I know I will need a couple for my M1009,
when I can afford it.
Does that member you got them from, sell/get them on a regular basis?

My drivers seat does not move, but I need it to.

Pm me info. if you wish.

Thank you,

P.s. By the way, what are the "sliders" for, and where on the M1028 do they go?

I think I took his last 4, he might of had 6, I will check/ask if he gets more in. I am replacing the M-109 seats with the same set, so if anyone needs 2 like new re-stuffed and recovered deuce seats let me know. I just cant get over how comfortable these black ones are.

Do you think those seats would fit three abreast in a 1031/1008? My 1031 has two buckets and I like that better than the bench seat option but I want three seats. Three buckets would be pretty cool.

My vote on the sliders is to go black.

Shakem-Deep

Hello Don,P.s. By the way, what are the "sliders" for, and where on the M1028 do they go?
They are overbuilt nerf bars that have a 4 bolt spread straight to the frame. I also needed a step to climb on in since there is a lift and 37" MT tires. I am 50 now and not as limber as I was when I was 30.. Ask ANDY, he saw me get in this truck with wet feet and I slipped getting in. Felt like a real dumb ass that day.

Here is a picture of Shakem's the manufactures truck. Same truck so he used it as a pattern for mine. He is also making them for Blazers as well. When I finally get a 1009 I am getting a set for those to. Looks tough to me,lol

We are sanding and doing the body work this week. I will keep the pictures coming on the paint job and the use of CARC. I ordered some extreme FatMat for the floor, back wall and inside the door skins. This will cut down on noise and help insulate. I went with black loop carpet instead of cut pile. Pictures to follow.

Well I started the installation of Shakem-Deep's sliders. I decided to go black to match the bumpers, I have been lazy and they are still primer gray.

Mike from Clark's 4X4 said "These are the best custom made Nerf bars I have ever seen."

I am liking this build. I also removed the bench seat, floor mat and insulation. I am installing a set of Hemtt Buckets.....[thumbzup] Gave the bench seat to a fellow member last Thursday. A full FatMat liner is going down next. Pictures to follow.

Do you think, or could you measure and see, will three of those buckets fit across the cab? Id like to build a modified frame that would fasten to the factory mounts but have three buckets on it and these one look good and comfortable.

Thanks!

Three will fit no problem. There is an extra 4" gap each side of the center seat. I put the third in a week ago when you asked me to check.

Deionized water is used to avoid problems with contaminating the paint - since paint can be applied anywhere in the world, and the local water can be hard, high in iron, alkali, acidic, and everything in between, the use of deionized water prevents the paint thinner (water) from causing any problems. When paint gets sophisticated, it gets complicated -- CARC is a long way from the old days of Dulux automotive enamel, and you have to follow the instructions carefully.
