Well guys, I need your assistance and guidance….. I found this 1008 purely by accident:grin:, the owner bought it from US embassy here in Bosnia few years ago, but did not drive it much due to it being a gasser (imagine the gas price here: 6.30$/gal).
Apparently, the embassy hired local Chevrolet dealer to supply the engine, gearbox and preform the conversion. They wanted to have only gas vehicles in their fleet…. Its 7.4l 454 vortec engine, 4l80 transmission but I’m not sure which transfer box (NP205?) the truck is near mint condition, as you can see on the pics, with only a tad over 10K miles …..to me it looks like a very clean conversion, but I’m not an expert, so I need your assistance….. I have a couple of questions…….
What is that engine like especially in combination with 4l80 and 1008 drivetrain?
Please let me know what you see in the engine bay? Apart from the engine, I see different hydro boost and brake fluid reservoir, radiator, ……. and my knowledge reaches that far…..
I know that 4l80 is pcm controlled, but what about the engine? The guy who showed me the truck was not the owner, the owner will call me tomorrow and give me all details on vehicle as I could not test drive it today….but it looked **** good…
What should I pay attention when I go to see and test it?
What is your general opinion on this set up?
Here are the pics:

Looks professional from the pics...Done after 96' with the Vortec...Looks identical to a C/K series truck with a big block...Just ordered the parts right from GM....Nobody ever said the govt does things cheaply, or smart :cookoo: Thats big bucks...Go for it!

Looking closer, it even has AC..Cant let those overpaid Embassy workers get too hot on the job! Maybe im being cynical here, and a bit off topic..But why the heck wouldnt the govt just have a 350 swapped in, leave the original trans, and be done with it?

That said..Im still drooling...If you want to sell I can arrange to get it to Hungary (where my wifes family is) and might be able to manage getting it shipped back..Be a heck of a lot of fun to drive around Europe with that thing

Thanks for your replies! I also noticed the AC but was too excited to ask if it was working. Hopefully, I'll talk to the guy tomorrow and see if I can get the truck before I need to go back to Iraq. Anything else I should pay attention to?
At the least, I'll go and give it a spin and see how it goes.....

That 454 will drink fuel like crazy but aside from that it looks great. The truck look astonishingly clean and BFG tires are always a plus. I would go for it if you can get a reasonable price.

Upon closer look,

the lines for the AC are crimped Shut, so its obivous the AC is not operable.... and I'm not seeing a 2nd Alt... other than that, its still looks good.. With that drivetrain you still shouldnt have any issues...

Well, different rules apply here, what in your opinion is a reasonable price for this truck? I agree it's thirsty, I expect around 10mpg, I can get it coverted to dual system gas/cng for around 500$......

With how clean it is I would feel comfortable in the $5000 to $6000 range. Maybe a little higher if it looks as good in person as it does in the pictures.

All trucks I could see in Bosnia were in great shape, here's mine 1009, I resprayed in a more civilian color (wife's choice), and put the emblems on fenders to conceal holes and assist authorities in designating the type of vehicle.... but it will have to go if I buy this one.....

SUper NICE Truck

I bet the air pump is crimmped off cause there is not and alternative configuration for the serpentine belt.

If you get the truck, get the wiring manual and get familiar with it so you can trace the circuits.

The engine is pcm controlled, The engine is mutiport fuel injected, may even be obd II (big plus in my book), Lots of data with obdII.

As far as the tranfer case goes look at the back side of it on the drivers side and there should be a silver disc with red screenprinting on it , it should be number stamped at the top ( 205, 208 ,233, 241,243, ect. ) .

I would check into alldata for wiring diagrams (usually alot more up to date). Good luck, Tim.
