Still Slow Oil Pressure buildup with Spin on Kit & Wix 51458 Filters... Why?

I need some help trying to figure out why my deuce is still so slow at building oil pressure. I changed the oil and added the Spin on filter kit to replace the canister oil filters. the Filters I put on are the Wix 51458 that have the anit drain back valve. Everyone says this should reduce the time taken to build oil pressure to 3 seconds. I have not seen a difference in the time it takes to build oil pressure... its still around 13-14 seconds, at which pressure shown on gauge at idle is right around 15psi at first then goes up slowly. I noticed once after turning it off for about 4 hours and restarting it that it still takes that long. If its been off for under an hour it appears to build pressure pretty quickly (under 5 seconds if memory serves).
Any help would be appreciated.

In case it helps the diagnostic, its a 88 M109a3 with 15,000 miles, Hercules

I have heard that the anti-drainbacks still leak and do not hold all the oil in the filter. If you don't run your truck for a while, the oil seeps back and the filters are empty. Over time, the seals in the antidrainback also fail and they are just normal filters. Anyone else experience this? I also installed spin ons with anti-drainback and experience the same thing.

also, is your oil sender and guage correct or mismatched? 60 psi? What do you normally run at idle?

Not sure, I'll have to check that out. I've never really seen the needle move out of 15-30 psi running at idle or on the road. I'll look into the gauge/sender stuff. Thanks

Well I changed oil and filters again a week ago. This time I put on the 1458 napa gold filters that are supposedly the same as the Wix ones.... both with anti drainback valves. I bought the filters off ebay so i cant be sure how old they are (they look fine and new). Anyway, the filters both leak down near instantly. It takes just as long to build oil pressure now as it did with the stock filters. It seams odd that I could have 4 filters all with bad valves. Once I get pressure its at around 30psi.
Any advice on filters that should work? Or could there be another reason that oil gets "Sucked" out of the filters once the engine is off?

First tried Wix 51458, now just tried Napa Gold 1458.

For what i'ts worth after I put on a spin on filrt kit my time to full pressure at idle(30 P.S.I) went from 15 seonds to 8 seconds. If I let the truck sit for a day or so it will take 8 seconds to build up pressure, However, If it sits for just a few hours it will build pressure almost immediatlyI still have the WIX 51458's that came with the kit, I have about 30 hours on this oil change, Rotella T 15/40 with 1 gallon of Lucas.

Here's a factoid to add to the mystery. My Deuce has the stock-type cannister filters. The truck had been sitting for a couple of months or more. I cranked it up - it caught immediately - and I had oil pressure building after three seconds and just shy of 60 (my normal idle reading) in five.

The same behavior was seen in startups all weekend.

I can't explain it but I am not complaining.

I'm not sure why, but some deuces don't drain back the oil. When I was helping drive deuces from Tx to Wi, I did an oil change and after the truck sat overnight, it still had oil in the stock cans.

To address the OP, what size are the filters from Napa and Wix? If they are the same size as the stock oil cans, thats why it takes so long to get pressure. The oil might not drain back, but it can "settle" through the filter. This is the reason I use the small spin on filters.

How long does it take to "start to build" pressure? Given the filters peashooter is using I interpret he's using the Jatonka kit, which advertise 2-3 seconds to start building pressure. If its less than that maybe there's an external problem, like the oil pickup screen in the pan is clogged with sludge or something else that would be inhibiting oil flow.

yes, this is more of what I was wondering about. I'm using the kit from Tie6044, which was nicely machined and came with all gaskets and filters for a great price. I havent looked at the other kits up close so i cant compare.

Here is some other info: I bought the truck last year, and changed the oil right after.... it was jet black. I probably only put 100 miles on the truck with all the work I was doing over the last year to it. Finally have the truck/camper finished and changed the oil again since I suspect I was getting some diesel in the oil from a leaking flame heater. The oil with 100 miles on it came out black as well. New oil (about 2 weeks old) has 300 miles run on it and its still clear). That makes me wonder about the pickup screen or other possible things along those lines.

Gimp, what brand/number oil filter do you recommend for the smaller size? The ones I have use are the large cans about the same size as the stock housings.

Gimp (and I) are using a spin on kit from Westfolk that uses filters with [FONT=Arial, Helvetica][SIZE=-1]a different 13/16-16 thread. The smallest filter recommended for that kit is the Napa 1060 (5 inches tall). [/SIZE][/FONT]
