transfer case drain plug

I need to check the tcase in my deuce. The drain plug seems to be non standard. It is a 4 point hole but my 3/4" rachet is too big and my 1/2" is too small. Is this a non standard size or just stripped?

I ask because I have the 5 point, non standard drain plugs on my transmission, so it would not surprise me if the tcase was non standard also.

If it's non standard does anyone know the size?

It is likely 9/16, not super uncommon from what I've heard.

It's 9/16"-don't ask me why they did that.

All the major tool suppliers (Snap-on, Mac, Matco, Cornwell, S-K, OTC, etc.) make kits with sockets that have all the various square sizes.

If it's not stuck, a piece of 9/16 square keystock and an open end wrench work fine, too.

If you counted 4 points it should be or was std 1/2" square; now probably stripped... but can be fixed by mig-welding it up - if no better replacement to be found.

Posts like this made me a bit unsure, after my initial statement; so I went out and checked the plugs on at least 10 different T-cases from every M35 Deuce generation...
some - especially the early ones on sprag T-cases are definitely 1/2" and nothing else will fit in there. But in most cases it really depends on how deep down into the hole one would measure: it starts with 1/2" at the bottom, increasing size to about 9/16" towards the edge... so it could actually be considered a non-std size...?
Interestingly, found one plug with a perfectly square hole for a 3/4" tool! But... I couldn't find one of them all that clearly had been designed for a 9/16" square socket... not saying they don't exist, though.

In the BII listing in back of the -10 manual, the wrench for pulling the inspection plugs is shown as resembling a short length of square bar stock. The adjustable wrench,also part of the BII is used to turn it.

I've got a tool bag with the square bar stock in it. I'll see if I can find it and measure it. For some reason, I was thinking it was 9/16" also.
