Tascabe up in St. Louis has a few of these. Mostly later UAZ-469 models although he has a GAZ-69a as well right now.

I think he usually ends up ordering parts from overseas for them although we are steadily figuring out more and more ways to make do with local stuff (that breaks a lot less).

We actually end up down in Oklahoma with them quite frequently running around at D-Day Adventure Park if you want to drop out and check one out sometime.

They are simple and easy to repair, often you can also fit them with parts from other vehicles, so you don't really have to order that much spare parts if you don't use them off-road too much.
I have an ex-army 1985 UAZ 469B with something about 8000 km on the clock, which had only one problem since the beginning - the rear axle sounded a little bit too loud. After a short off-road trip I decided to open it and saw that two bearings were completely gone. And she was still drivable, before I took off the axle. Loud as h*ll, but I managed to get back home over 30 kilometers. Pretty impressive, ha! :D

edit: stupid bad words censorship! Since when h-e-l-l is a curse? ;)

"Built like tanks". I'd love to find one of the older GAZ69's in good shape at less then the left & right family jewel price, but, if wishes were horese, beggars would ride! They had the reputation of being overbuilt and fairly simple, squaring with the fact that the drivers had probably never driven a car before the service....

I love my Russian trucks (most of the time) Simple is probably an understatement.

Some of the older members would recognize the technology in use - but us younger guys are used to more electronics and computers involved (which always cause problems)

Most of my issues have been fuel related. Vapor lock, failing fuel pumps etc.

Fixing those by using electric fuel pumps and spacers for the carbs.

While I do order a fair amount of parts from the Europe (Ukraine and Bulgaria mostly) I also find (or more often read on that above mentioned forum) about Western alternatives - such as Weber carbs and facet fuel pumps.

I am interested in the craigslist posting since I am always on the lookout for more of these to add to the collection:)

Yup the gray GAZ off Ebay. Bought from my buddy Dave in Santa Clarita. Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts sat in the back seat of it in Charlie Wilsons war. Been in Indiana Jones an crystal skull, Transformers, pearl harbor an a lot more. Cold hearted to start but runs great! We had it at this past Tower Park meet in Lodi, Ca.

I saw the same one listed a while back. I about tried for it to cannibalize for my GAZ 69(s). I would be interested in seeing a restored vehicle. I am in Oklahoma. Any chance they make it to D-Day Oklahoma?
