Hey, How about another insurance thread!??

It seems there are so many questions on this. And even more different answers. Coming from the very same company even. For the most solid answer you can depend on, make the appointment to show them just what they are insuring.

I met my agent and the underwriter today to discuss my 8 year old policy at my request. It is State Farm.

My policy is 61.00 dollars every six months. Special purpose, Antique classic, limited to 2 thousand miles a year or less. 100K comprehensive, 250K collision, roadside service and uninsured motorist. Based out of Western Portland Oregon.

I told them what I use it for.
Home depot runs. Ok with them. Comments about the unusual nature of the rig. The ability to haul. Keep it under 2K a year.
Aarons PNW campout, I told them I convert to camp in it. Netting, lighting, solar cooling, a queen bed and carpet. NOT OK. It is Ok to drive to the event. But State farm does not expect that you will be sleeping in the antique or classic. I can if I need to but Liz is a passenger and if she gashed her head on a bow corner or fell out of the truck and had a bad injury, she would not be covered. A tent makes it OK.
Hauling a dozen veterans 5 miles to a parade site. In this situation they said I would only be covered for 25K total for all of them. Very risky activity. It was OK and I could do it. But only after warning them of my limited coverage. They advised them caravanning to the parade site. The parade is avg 3 MPH and not an issue.
Hauling firewood. OK as the comments about the nature of the vehicle were repeated. Don't do it for profit, keep it under 2K a year.
Picking up MV parts. Obviously OK as Feb 4th I creamed a BMW X-5 stopped at a light by accident doing just that after a traffic distraction. I paid for most of the back end of it. State Farm handled it with no issues. They did not even ask what I was doing. I worried for a couple days someone would ask because I did not know for sure.
So I can do most anything with it as long as It's under 2K a year in milage and the comments about not sleeping in it.

It was determined (by them) that I did not need to modify my policy except to up the value from 4K to 8K. For a buck a month why not.

I did NOT mention woodburn dragstrip truck days coming up.:whistle:

So now I know for sure. No more wondering.
Don't risk being denied even standard coverage if something bad happens.
Make the appointment and get their attention. You will probably get a very different answer with every agent and underwriter.
It was totally worth the drive.
Now to keep it under 2K. 8)

Mine is insured through USAA underwritten by Progressive. Both parties are well aware of the vehicle and everyone guarantees me 100% it is insured(talked to about 10 people at different levels in each company). No restrictions on usage either. 30$/mo is a bit high, but still cheaper than my daily driver.

Hope you got all that in writing. I don't know what camping out of the Deuce has to do with anything, or Mama banging her head on something and falling out of it. If someone tripped getting out of your daily driver sedan, what insurance company is going to cover that? I didn't drive to the Agent's ofice, I submitted my paperwork and the requested photographs via email. My proof of insurance card was emailed to me 2 hours later, I'm with Gulfway, less than $200 a year and no restrictions. Very nice foks to work with.

Because it was not a standard policy, I wanted the peace of mind that I was not operating outside the boundries of my policy. I don't know about your agent, but my agent and underwriter didn't have a clue what an M35A2 was let alone a duece and a half. The peace of mind is awesome.
And I'm not the type to submit an insurance claim for bonking your head or falling out of a truck. Thats just kind of tough luck. And SOP for me sometimes. ;)

Glad yours worked out for ya.
