Military repowered M108's?

I found a military document, has a lot of interesting vechiles in it. Anyways, it has truck labeled M108A2, 2 1/2 ton wrecker/crane, and under the vehicle characteristics it says multifuel.

I have a M108 that still has the Gold Comet 331 gasser in it. Interestingly, it turns great. No stiff turning like multifuel models at all. Story I hear is that when the military 'upgraded' to multifuel, they went cheap and didn't add power steering, which is why a A2 is stiff to turn. The gassers were designed from the get-go to steer fine. Much lighter engine than a multifuel.

The bed.

Clinto, yes moving it was easy. Sling chain, pull lever. The trailer placement sucked. It wasn't until I had it suspended that I realized my power lines were in the way to swing it around to the back. My original plan was to remove bed from trailer and place canned motor on trailer. Had to regroup and move the trailer out and drop the bed on my car trailer. All in all, not a bad job. Lifting the M109A3 body Thursday was more intense.

JW, it's a fine looking bed and I'm hoping to filet it soon if I can get some cooperation! LOL. It does have a fair size dent, from the inside, on one of the dropside panels. I'm pretty confident that I can make that go away in the filet process. Next week I'll hack off (unbolt) the mudflaps in preperation.

SO we are going to "round up"a bunch of guys to lift it up on the truck? I think MDmorgan is going to have their wrecker on site. Have we thought about how we will bolt it down? I can have some brackets made, or cut some off a parts truck I know of.

If you can hack off the front mounts and a few rear that may help. If all else fails it can be chained or strapped until JW can fab up what he needs. I'm sure we can at least get 4 holes drilled in the frame there. Bring the mag drill. Wonder if Papabear plans on bringing the crane thingy?

Just bring along about a dozen predrilled 9/16" grade 8 chamfered bolt holes.

So HERE is that thread I heard of. This oughta be good. As far as heavy lifting goes, if there is no green iron in the compound capable, I have little doubt that D'Town's track hoe would be available. And I know just the man to run it!!!!!
