Front lamp identification

Acquired an 84 M923 and noticed it has an extra pair of lights that are mounted above the front turn signals. Can't seem to find an answer as to what they are for. Help please!

They are called lolipop lights. They were required with any vehicles in the European theater. They let traffic coming from behind see the blinkers when turning or changing lanes from behind or on side of the vehicle. They are wired with the blinkers.

Some are amber on one side facing the rear and a plastic face on the front and others are a combo lens of yellow on one side and red on the other.

Perfect thanks a bunch, is there any reason why my truck might have them? Could this be a sign as to where the truck may have been?

I have seen them on maybe 10% of the trucks on GL. It does not appear the USMC uses them. Maybe your truck was in a European unit or possible was temporarily deployed? Many of the European trucks also had square red/yellow stickers on the rear of the mud flaps, tailgates or bodies.

I saw some tractors out of Shelby and cargos out of Ft. Riley that still had on the doors in white paint "KFOR" from service in Bosnia and the lights & signs. You never know where this stuff has been.

There is an ss member "Carnac" search for vin info thread- who can possibly trace your truck and tell you which unit it came out of and possibly the previous one to that also. He has a very specific format when requesting info so follow the instructions.

The lights I got were red/yellow and I did not like the red lenses up front. They are made by Arrow. I changed them to all amber to conform with dot regs. They are common lights on farm equipment and earlier medium duty trucks. The lenses are easy to find at a HD truck parts store or NAPA is where I got mine. Easy MOD that takes minutes.

appologies, I thought "Europe" would be enough.

Most US units operated out of Germany and Britain during the Cold war, then did the Balkans, Bosnia, former Czechoslovakia etc..... (Wow - try spelling that without coffee) but they had to travel throughout most of the central, Northern and Eastern EU countries.
There are many SS members that served over there, maybe they will chime in.

And if they are one sided, the amber should face the REAR. I got into a heated discussion with another member about this- he put his facing the front. WHY? you already have the composite lights facing the front, they were to provide someone coming alongside with a signal indication, why do you need two to the front. His answer was they just wanted them higher. Uh, they are already 4-5 ft off the ground! you don't see mini coopers with turnsignals on sticks...

He drug me down to his level and beat me with experience. And I was dumb enough to let it happen, so I deserved it.
