Transfer case crack?

Hey all, just found out I have a crack in the transfer case on my m1028. It's the original np-208c2. I have a friend who has a np-208c1 out of a half ton suburban. Obviously I can't bolt up that case in place of the original, my question is about just the case. Does anyone know if the case off the 208c1 will work on the 208c2? Thanks for any help with this issue!

Clean, clean, clean, then put on JB Weld on a hot day. Available at Lowes.

I had a hand sized chunk busted out of my transmission in my dump truck from a floppy PTO. The epoxy welded it right in and I never had a leak. I was shocked when my welder told me about it. It was about 90 degrees outside when I applied the mixture. Heat makes all the difference in the world.

It might be worth a try.

Thanks for that! I thought of that, but that would probably be a last resort. I've never had much luck with the jb weld, and being up here in Minnesota I won't be seeing any hot or even warm days for a while. I'm still trying to figure out if the cases are similar or not.

The trick to JB Weld is getting the repair area clean enough. Most people don't get it clean enough and have problems. It actually works pretty well if applied right.

I didn't know the trick to do it while it's hot but it makes sense. You could try a heater of some sort to heat the area in cold weather.

I have no idea about the differences in the cases.

If its a half ton prolly not its most likely a 27 spline tcase and you have a 32 spline.
I'm only wondering about the t-case, case halves only. Could I take the good non cracked case half from the np208c1 and bolt it to the original np208c2 in place of it's cracked case half? Keeping all internals of my transfer case & only using 1 half of the case from the np208c1.
