OK so im really new to these CUCV things.. Ive been looking into parts on these things.. GM72K10 was telling me in another forum we frequent to change the CDR valve and gave me a part number.. Said part number is unknown to my girl at auto zone.. similarly there are different injectors for the cucv than the civilian models. What other parts are different than the civvie models?

Welcome to SS.

The CDR value from what I understand is hard to find. You can find NOS CDR Values on Ebay.

It's hard to say what other parts parts are different from chivy 6.2 diesel. I suggest you do reaesrch on the site.
Most of time you can get the correct part number on the site.

From my experience with my CUCV the auto store can locate simple replacement parts filters, switches , and such.
But for some parts it may be different. Do research on SS.

For example I pulled my dash cluster to clean contacts and replace bulbs.
I went to auto store told them I needed dash bulbs for a 84 K5. It got a dozen 168 bulbs which is fine.
Except what I didn't know was that the Gen2 light uses a 194 bulb.

When looking on a certain auction site for the CDR valves, include the 6.2 / 6.5 liter HMMWV listings in your search, as that is where most of them seem to be coming from. I've bought a few there, and they have been exact replacements. One of the sellers on that auction site is also a member here, Wolfer, I believe, that sells them.

It is also possible to clean them. Search is your friend, this has been covered many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many... times before. Did I mention that this has been covered many times before? Yes? Good.

Hi guys,

Just wondering...
What are the symptoms when the CDR goes bad?
And where is it located?
Also, is it one of those parts that should be changed on a regular every few whatever miles schedule?
Or just replace whenever it goes bad?

Think of the CDR valve as a heavy-duty positive crankcase valve. Since it is a diesel engine, there is no intake manifold vacuum to pull the crankcase gases into the intake.

If crankcase gases are not purged, there can be serious deposits in the engine and poor oil life. Other symptoms of a failed CDR valve is oil leakage from rotating seals, primarily the older style rear main seal. This happens when crankcase pressure builds. The rear main cannot seal effectively under any real pressure.

The CDR is located on the right bank valve cover, sort of. It is golden in color and about 3" in diameter with two hoses attached to it.

I believe there is some recommended change interval for the CDR valve, but as they are not always easy to find, you can clean them. There is really not much inside them. There is a thread here somewhere that shows one being taken apart. I used some diesel fuel to clean mine.

I bought a few spare new ones and an used one off that auction site. I cleaned mine, but then replaced it anyway. I did save it though. I'm still getting a small leak from my rear main seal, so the CDR valve was not the cause.

Is it known as a "Crankcase depression valve" in the 20p CUCV TM?

If not, anyone happen to have the TM part number for it?

Not needed... I looked more at the TM and saw an image of it. Even the part number.
But when I searched for that part number on the OReilly and Napa sites, I got nothing.

Any tips on how to find the proper part on there or elsewhere would be appreciated.
Next I will check the LMC truck catalog.

Look for a CDR valve for a civilian Blazer with the diesel or any of the civilian diesel pick-up trucks. They all use the same injectors unless someone has changed them out for marine injectors.
