Has anyone put a big warn in between the frame rails instead of the garwood?. I have a 18k warn that I picked up and I'd rather just buy the frame rail extensions then a complete kit. Any ideas on how hard it would be to do ?

I'd like to know that myself. You are referring to the 18k 24v correct?

So do I but a friend told me it would be much better to use the Garwood. The biggest downside (and only in my mind) is the cost of the those Warn 18k winches.

I paid 500 for mine fresh rebuild from warn. As far as user friendly the warn wins it will have a wireless remote and smaller line I don't think I'd use it everyday to pull out the 5ton tho mine will be strictly for smaller vehicle recovery

I have some pics i've saved not sure on whose a3 this is but its what your talking about i think. I would want mine more behind the bumper and protected. the garwoods stick to far out plus 2 man operation if I remember correctly. I think it would be cool to put the winch controls in cab.winch.jpgwinch2.jpgwinch3.jpg

Yes sir I em I think it would be a lot more useful then the garwood
No WAY! You will find out the same thing as the MRAP drivers in Afganistan that those winches have no AZZ. I have one on a lowboy set up to drag dead trucks up the ramps and it struggles even with a snatch block.

I found your thread on the install you did on your truck, very nice job, i wanted to do the same thing on my bobbed truck. That is why i was asking about these new and rebuilt winchs for $500.00 and $650.00

I want to put one between the rear frame on my deuce. Need to find one of those $500 18k winches and figure out a mounting plate solution.

I have a winch on the 813 so no worries this ones going on the 923a2. I also have a 12 pound power pack winch which is hydraulic so I should be good if I get stuck
