Is the switch plate on the dash and just the switch is missing, or is there no evidence a switch was ever present? Might be a sprag transfer. Search sprag in the early deuce and deuce forums.

Sorry bud, old deuces don't have 6x6 switches, front wheel drive is activated by a sprag clutch within the transfer case when slippage in the rear occurs. They can be temperamental and/or require linkage adjustment, or just be plain worn out. Download the technical manuals and search the website for "sprag." Good luck!

By the way. Welcome to the site. If you have not had a chance, down load the technical manuals (TM) and brush up an a little light reading. they are the best repair manuals you can get.
