Head Removal Question? Cant find in TM

I have a m1009 and i have been trying to locate the section in the TM for it but cant find it? Can someone let me know please what section its under? Im trying to find out what the manual says for how long of a job it is to remove heads to replace gaskets and also if it list how many men for the job? If anybody can direct me in the right way of where in maintenance manual to locate this will be greatly appreciated.

HI you need a 34P TM, or just get a repair book for a K series blazer that year its the same engine.

well my dilema is that my blazer is in diesel shop and the owner is trying to hose me on the price telling me its way over the hours that should be for taking heads off replacing gaskets and reasembly. . Im trying to just find out based on the maintenance manual for my m1009 how many hours the job takes. Doesnt the Tm say how many hours the job should take , how many men it takes to do the job and also step by step procedure on doing the job at hand? Thanks

HI The tm will show time for each thing u do then haft to total it up,like time to remove intake,exaust manafolds,v/c's etc but the civ rate chart calls for around $1,200. pts n labor not including a valve job on heads.Personel needed is 2,hope this helps how mutch is he trying to charge you?steve

The TM 9-2320-289-34, Section 3, Paragraph 7 (3-7), page 3-20 has the instructions. It lists the number of personel needed as 2. (I've done them by myself).

It does not list the number of hours required. I have never seen that listed in the military TMs that I use. Even the Chilton and Haynes manuals don't list time.

You will need to find a Shop Rate manual that will list the time. Mitchell's and Motor's are two that come to mind. Your local library may have a copy. Most online versions require that you pay for that information.

Call your local chevy dealer and ask them how many flat-rate hours the job takes . Motor Manuals professional service trades edition has a flat-rate guide , but they are expensive and probably hard to find for a 30+ year old truck.

Yikes!

Not sure why it would be a two man job other than lifting the heads off which could be a single man job if you were built like a mule. I think if you are paying someone this kind of labor to do headgaskets you are getting hosed. Do it yourself and save the money unless you have absolutely no room or resources to carry it out.
