Can somebody point where in the TM that talks about normal engine shut down and the parts affected. My M944A1 doesn't. I have to pull the emergency stop. I assume you push the start lever down the the battery disconnect. There must be a solenoid that shuts off the fuel.

Have you ever shut your truck off before?

If it's new to you and the switches wont shut it off, pull the emergency shutoff cable(T handle).

You'll need to open the hood and reset it afterward (to re-start it).

There is a knurled knob on the IP shut off valve, it is used to manually override the shut off valve.

Go shut it off and we'll explain more later.

Oh, I mis-read!

When he has his hand on the lever that he has been resetting, the override knurled knob is just forward and below that lever(on the shutoff valve).

He needs to unscrew that knurled knob. (screwed in, overrides, screwed out, is normal operation)

The correct shutdown sequence is to shut off the ignition switch first, (bottom switch) then turn the battery switch to off (top switch). If the battery switch is turtned off first (incorrect shutdown), it can fry the control box.

This Is great stuff!!! Thanks all. The peices are starting to come together. The GL vidio shows the truck running. When we got there it wouldn't start. After much trying My guardian angle (guy working the yard gut at New Castle) screwed the knob in. Fortunatly I don't have to reset when I pull the "E" knob.

My entire working life involved fixing things. Ended as a field service engineer. Now that I am retired my hobyy is ..... Guess what ....... Fixing things:-D. There must be a seperate engine TM that shows the fuel system in detail as well as all the other engine systems. There has to be a voltage to mechanical device that acdivates/deactivates fuel flow.

1) Does anybody have the engine TM manual or manual part number or whare I can get one?
2) Where is that voltage/fue on off l device and what does it look like?

Its the whole unit that the red arrow points to in DH's picture above. If that is bad and you have to rely on the mechanical shutdown, you can add a return spring to it so that when you oush in the emergency shutdown, it will reset on its own. Then take your time to find the new solenoid if needed at the best cost. If you have an extra hand, have them push/pull the cutoff handle while you are looking at the solenoid and it will become easily understood.

Steve, we should have the manuals here.

Here is a picture of the shutoff solenoid.

Notice the TM # and the page number.

That is the TM that explains replacement.

There should be 24 volts on that solenoid whenever the ignition switch is on.

Try unscrewing the knurled knob(CC) and see if it will start.

The part number will be listed in one of the TMs ending with -24P.

The part number will be a cummins number, google it for sources or go to a dealer.

Use this thread to get the newest tm's not posted to ss yet. They are easier to use & have flow charts for troubleshooting

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?96375-Updated-TM-for-M939-series&highlight=manuals

There is a member who will send them to you on a cd m352a2-az

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?92458-New-TM-9-2320-272-10/page2

Also, the last link on the ss page doghead referred to you has an excellent wiring and air brake line interactive schematic software P2P

The fuel shut off solenoid is available at truck stores. I used Truck Pro. Make sure to order a 24v model not 12v. It is powered off the black protective control box. Check out the wiring diagram as the military uses wire tags on all wiring which make it easier to trace out.

Best of luck & welcome! :tank:

Unscrew the fuel shutoff knob. Try and start the truck. If the truck starts and runs, you should be good to go. If the truck won't start and run, first make sure you have 24v going to the solenoid. If you have 24v going to the solenoid and it still won't run, you need a new solenoid.
