M1070 vs m920

I'm curious about the main differences between it and an m920. It looks to seat 5-6 in the cab, which is a plus. It's also an 8x8 vs a 6x8.

What else is different?

Take a look at the two trucks side by side if that doesn't answer your question then look up the specs. A m920 is a tonka tow compared to a hett

I haven't seen a picture of them together. Looking at the specs, I can see that the hett has about double the cap as the 920. What about the running gear and other stuff?

From the quick google search I just did, the M1070 can haul 10,000 more pounds(140,000) than the M920, but is about 15mph slower.

I can vouch that an M1070 has room in the cab for 6. I was an M1 Tanker during my active days and they had room in the back for the crew. It pulled a neat trailer that all the bogies turned on in response to the steering of the tractor. I'm not sure what the truck and trailer weighed but I know an M1 Tank is roughly 70 tons. The ones I rode in were Detroit powered but they seemed to handle the load decently. Not a hot rod but capable of pulling the load through the worst of terrain so it get's kudo's for mobility from me.

Last time I was at Ft. Knox before they moved the Armor School, a contractor out in town had the job of moving the tanks from the motorpool to the field. He had about 20 M911's pulling heavy haul military trailers that used to be hooked to them. I thought the M911 tractors moved the load just fine. I don't know much about them but I will say, if Oshkosh is plated on it, It can probably handle it. They build some pretty mean trucks.

So your saying that the top speed of the m1070 is around 45? That would pretty much be a deal breaker for freeway use-at least in my book.

Ok, I did a bit more research, and holy crap-it's huge! From what I read, you can't even drive it on a freeway w/o a wide load permit. I'd love to see a picture of a 920 next to the 1070.

I won't post my ususal rant about the HETT.
They have a cool factor but like any huge truck they are money pits unless you have a good paying gig to support them.
I think M123's and M911's are cool too but unless I hit the lotto I won't be owning one.
I would buy a M920 since they are more practical and will run 55 downhill with a tornado pushing them.

If there are vehicles like this coming up for auction or if there is an active auction you should try to avoid posting even general information until the auction is over. Most of us savy auction watchers know what is for sale and when but even giving someone a faint lead could cause prices to go up if more bidders enter the pool. Posting a link to an active sale or auction will get you a time out and if repeated could result in you being permantly banned from the site. This info is posted in the rules everyone agrees to when they join the site. Just a word to the wise.

I looked at the pictures of a M1070, and wow! I already see me and Angie, riding to Haspin in A/C comfort, with the back seat full of dogs and the pig, and whatever other barnyard critter she wants to bring. However the low speed, I assume low MPG, and the need for permits, quickly pops the dream bubble.

Thanks. I wasn't trying to cause any issues. It's just that I've never really seen one, and it caught me attention.

I had the same dream yesterday when I saw it;).

I was quickly snapped back to reality with the wide load and speed issues too.

Oh well, just have to keep dreaming!
