Hey guys, Im new here so bare with me. I need help, my deuce wont start!

So I had a normal day of driving and decided to go fuel up before calling it a night and just as I pull into the gas station my deuce just shut off. I tried to crank it back up but had no luck. I had about a quarter of a tank and put another two gallons in the tank from a small container just to make sure. I tried cranking it a few times but had no luck. I decided to leave my deuce at the gas station and go back in the morning. Any ideas or suggestions? Any help is greatly appreciated.

My suggestion is to fill the tank, loosen the injector lines at the injectors and crank it over till the loosened lines are spitting fuel. Then close them up and see if it lights off.

Do you hear the in tank pump running with the power switch on?

Have you downloaded any of the TM's for your vehicle? There is a lot of operator troubleshooting procedures in them. Rick's suggestion is a good start.

Ill definitely try that. I would go tonight but I dont wanna drop a bolt or nut and not find it. I think I can hear the pump when I try to crank it. I think Im gonna need a friend to come with me for an extra set of hands and ears. Thanks for the suggestion rchalmers3!

Try filling it up, there is a pick up tube on the fuel pump housing that is known to fail. If it cracks or splits above your fuel level it won't be able to suck up the diesel.

You can also crack the bleeder at the final fuel filters and turn on the power to see if the lift pump is lifting.

Going through the TM trouble shooting chart can be a big help. One time I had my deuce sitting in the driveway idling just like normal, no missing, no surging, nothing out of the normal and it just died like I had pulled out the stop cable. I could hear the in tank pump running so I opened the bleeder on the secondary/final fuel filters and nothing. Changed the primary filter and was back in business. And welcome to the site.

Like everyone has alluded to, you ran it out of fuel. The in-tank pump won't pump right off the bottom so you can still have a couple of inches in the tank and run out.

First thing to do is open the bleeder on the filters, turn the power switch on, and get a good stream of fuel coming out of the bleeder. It's very likely your truck will then start after a little cranking. If not then you'll have to break the lines at the injectors and bleed it there also.

There is a chance your in-tank pump isn't working. Most deuces will run without the in-tank pump working but if you run out of fuel it will never pick it back up. If you can't get fuel up to the filter bleeder with the power switch on, it's likely your pump isn't working (you should also be able to hear it running standing beside the tank). If the pump isn't running check to make sure you have power to the pump and then check the fuse (located under a cover on top of the pump).
