M939 series: differences per branch of service?

are there any differences in the M939 series as equipped for different branches of service..Marines had certain accessories where Army, etc..did not or vice versa..?

I saw a M931A1 tractor that had a hardtop on it that had a tag on the hardtop that said "hardtop enclosure 2 1/2 ton 6 x 6 5 ton 6 x 6" maybe they used different cabs or what they had. I hope my M931A2 has a narrow cab instead of the wide cab since the duece tops are easier to get. I'll just have to measure the cab when it gets here.:?:

All m939's have the same cab. My hardtop also has a tag that says 2.5 ton, but it will definitely not fit on a m35/m809. Some marine trucks we equipped with Detroit lockers, 15' bed, and everything needed for the hydraulic front winch minus the winch itself.

The only differences are listed above, if you get a narrow cab let us know ASAP :) Just kidding... But there was one difference not listed, A Marine drove the USMC units and a Soldier drove the Army version :) Disclaimer... Both are true American Heros and patriots :)

did the AF have any? I drove deuces in the AF back in the '70's..i think the only 5 ton (at least in my Tac Mob unit then) was a wrecker....

The Air Force had M939s in the Ground Launched Cruise Missile units. I trained on 923s and 925s. I am guessing that they were A1 version as they had single tires, but the Med Techs at Davis-Monthan had duals on their trucks. All the trucks I saw in training and in England had hard tops.

Also the Marine version had drop sides that had 4 partitioned sections instead of two due to the size of the marine shipping containers. As stated the cabs on the 939s were the same size and will fit only the 939 series. These were designed to accommodate three in the cab.

Additionally, I have never heard of, nor seen, any M939A2s being used by the USMC. If someone has pictures of them in use, I'd love to see them. The Navy, however, did use the A2s. The Seabees M925A2 that I had did not have lockers, though.

The 15ft bed Derrick references is the ISO bed with the ISO container locks and it has a split double taller sides than a regular bed. They also have a compartment at the back for a boarding latter under the tailgate. I know the USMC was the primary user, not sure if they also went to the army and they were available in the long bed also.

I'm looking at an auction that closes today. It's a M923. It doesn't have USMC on the hood. But it appears there might be a small stencil on the tailgate that may/may not be USMC. However, it has the "gem clips" on the front bumper, as well as the controls for a PTO. It appears to have a standard (one piece per side) dropside bed. What are the odds it's a USMC truck? And furthermore a truck with lockers? I really just wanted it for parts if it's a locked axle truck.

The clips I think are a dead giveaway along with the winch controls that is was a 100% USMC at some point.

Not all had lockers or iso beds. Bed might have been changed if went to the Army?
