Hello all,

I'm thinking of buying an MEP 701A. Does anybody have a good parts source for this genset???? Would I be better off buying an MEP 002A?

Thanks
Matt

Apples/oranges. 701A is a single cylinder 3kW, 002A is a twin cylinder 5kW.
701A weighs about 535 pounds, 002A over 1000lbs.
701A is a 3600RPM machine, 002A is an 1800RPM machine, but the 3600RPM engine has good efficiency, too.

I prefer the MEP-016D, which is the MEP-016A(originally gasoline) with a Yanmar Diesel motor. My main reason for preferring the Yanmar is the pull rope. The 701A can be fitted with a Yanmar, too.

To answer your question I've gotten 701A parts on ebay. Onan parts are not too hard to find but Yanmar parts seem to be much more plentiful.

They can be hard, yes ebay and tracking down the part by the manufacturer on the part itself. I have a bad DC breaker and took forever to track down someone that sold it.

And SS classifieds of course.

Hey, I am looking for a fuel shut off solenoid for the mep701a, with the onan q106d engine.
Jump that solenoid with a hot wire directly from the battery. I bet it works fine. I think you have a bad float switch or relay or connection somewhere. The low fuel float switch can be bypassed with a jumper inside the control box. I would have to figure it out. I did it once but did not write it down. All four relays can be removed and re-installed upside down as long as the coils are good. They are symetrical and only one set of two contacts is used in each relay. Turning them upside down replaces the existing set of contacts with a fresh set of contacts. Relays don't fail often, though. Make sure the connector plug on the solenoid is gripping the solenoid terminals tight. The plug can be taken apart and the female spade terminals can be made tighter by squeezing them with pliers. Also the plug can be cut off and regular automotive spade terminal ends can be fitted to the wires and stuck on the solenoid male spade terminals. I have seen several units with a connection problem or previous repair in this area.
