Not bad. The one in your pics is a gear drive. The thru bolts are on the outside of the gear reduction and the inside of the old school direct drive.

What exactly does that mean? The reduction one should still bolt up? Right? Are you saying that the bolts run on the outside of the housing on the new style ?

The bolts that hold the motor together. You can't see them on the direct drive. Both starters bolt to the block the same way but the support bracket is different.

No it was a little noisey he said it may need to be shimmed I brought a mechanic friend w me two and he agreed , I contacted the seller shortly after all the issues started to develop and be said I had no idea , he's a cop in Gorgia and said he wished there was something he could do cause he can't afford to have a bad reputation being a police officer, I said u can give me some money back he said he couldn't , he posted here several times what a great running truck it is , it does run very well but I've had to pretty much replace or work on every excessary alternators belts pumps etc.
Yeah - not a lot you can do when YOUR mechanic agreed with him about shimming. Your guy probably did not see busted off block corner. Still - someone did the hack patch job and obviously knew about the busted casting. Personally, I think he should help on the starter because it is unlikely he did not know unless he only had the truck a very short time.
Saying it has to be shimmed indicates he knew.

Yes it's very disappointing that not every one has good morales, he hasn't been back on here since he took the money and ran, he was just on SS to sell the vehicle, if this doesn't work ill have to park it for a long time, its drained me money wise, another worry is trusting some one and finding a good replacement engine that won't cost a fortune that's is in good shape , it's seems like someone's always out to get some money haha , the only upside is the awesome support and help from the members of SS!!!!

There is a company called Lock-N-Stitch their specalty is repairing cast iron. They make kits you can buy for do it your self cast iron repair. They can help you guys probably a lot cheaper than welding and you could do it without having to remove or disassemble the engine. Look them up and check out their website there is some amazing stuff in there.

I hope this helps,
Denny

If they can put big block chevy engines that were cut in half to repair other breaks and locomotive blocks with huge chunks missing than that starter boss will seem like childs play.

Re: Anyone have any pictures of new style starter bracket installed on truck

I meant to take one when I got home but between the late hours and the rain. If I get home before dark I'll take one. In one of the pics you posted did you see the boss sticking out from the block above the starter? It bolts there and to an ear that sticks up from the starter.
Why not just add to your previous thread?

The only response I got back was no knowledge of it

Merged threads.

Have you looked at the parts manuals? While it isn't a "picture" of the bracket, it does give you a good idea how things are put together. I use it all the time to figure out how something goes together.
