With that much bed overhang, you'll need a rear crash bar.

Actually.. I was thinking of using a M927 bed, no, it wouldn't be bobbed. One of the things I like about the M1070 is the cab seating capacity, AC, sheer cab size, etc.

I like the running gear and suspension of the M977 HEMTT MUCH better, but I hate the two place cab of the HEMTT trucks, and not real fond of the bed layout with side entry being your only option. I'd rather have the crane in front of the bed. But the engine layout of the HEMTT trucks doesn't seem to allow for options of mounting different cabs.

I guess one option would be to mount the crane from a M977 in front of a M923 Bed on a M1070 truck....

Considering this would be used for more of a "toy" (aka parades, shows, cruis-ins) or a SHTF vehicle... I'm not as concerned about the MPH or MPG. I mean seriously.. if I worred about that I wouldn't have a military truck to begin with..lol

Just looking at something new or different.

I started to go down the HEMTT crane path on my project. But the base motor sits inside the framewell. That's why they're always on the tail end of the trucks. Otherwise drivetrain parts would be in the way.

You must consider parking when you bring a monster like that to Quaker Steak. Imagine you trying to get out of the parking place you were in the last time.

Very true... lol Even with the M923 I have to plan my parking carefully. I figure the M1070 would just require a bit more planning.. unless I wanted to drive over or push things out fo the way.. lol :tank:

why don't they just start getting rid of the Strykers?!?!?! lol

Is all this M1070 fever simply because there are so many coming out and they are going relativly cheaply? I think if you like the cab etc, grafting that onto a M927 or some other such beast would be the better way to go.
