Fuel pump - Install issues - Help?

I swear, I am about to start drinking again. Maybe pick up smoking this time, too!

I finally got my new AC Delco fuel pump number 43254 installed, almost.

I have the bolts in and the rubber fuel hose attached, but the metal fuel pump I cannot get the nut/male threaded end to attach to the female receiver threads on the filter. Pics below.

Does anybody have a suggestion on how best to attach those? I have been working on this now for at least two hours straight. Just on that portion and am past the frustration point.

Suggestions? Hints? Tips? Tricks? Or just dynamite? ;(

Thanks. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1383944460.027447.jpg

Yeah...that won't happen

Unbolt the pump and thread the line on loose, tighten pump, tighten line...complete!

Ask me how I know :)

You owe me a beer!

The only thing I've read here over and over again is to get that metal line started on the pump *before* bolting the pump in.
So, if i put the pump on last night, i assume i'll have to take it all apart, again, get a new gasket and redo the entire job?! Uggg.

Thanks for the feedback...not what i wanted to hear, of course. Beers on me. Come on over.

Anything else i need to know about installing this fuel pump? I have removed it, scrapped off the sealant, am going to the store to get a new gasket, and will do it all over again.

Or take the bottom bolt off from alternator and that will allow the clamp that holds the fuel line in place to be free up to move the fuel line around. You should already have the batteries disconnected as you should always do this when working on major repairs. Never know when a tool will fall and contact ground and positive.

Its easier to get the rear most bolt started first as it has the worst access. Its the harder one to get in so do it first, doing the front one first can lead you to spend hours trying to get the rear bolt aligned. Just thread it on a few turns..then install fuel fitting and tighten fitting, its almost impossible to do if you do the bolts up first. Then install the forward bolt, lastly tighten the rear bolt. On rear bolt I use a 1/4" ratchet with combination of short socket and extension and just a deep socket. The clearance is very tight, Helps to put some gasket sealer on gasket so it stays in place.

Success!

I reinstalled everything...threaded the metal fuel line before installing the pump, and everything was smooth from there!

It started right up. I ran it for a few minutes and all seems well...for tonight.

Thanks for the help, Guys.

Started up fine this morning. Ran her for about 10 mins. Let her set for an hour, tried to start her, and she wouldn't start.

Left her in the parking lot and will come try her again later today. If she starts, i'll start to believe it's an IP problem. Oh, and now there is a clicking/sizzling/crackling electrical sound coming from the engine side of the firewall in front of the driver. Uggggg.....when do I get a break with this truck??!!!

That's where your gp relay is. Have you done the resistor bypass? If you try to start it with the hood open and hanging out the door, you should be able to figure it out. Good luck.
