Went out to start the CUCV-II this morning for my Black Friday shopping before going to work. It wouldn't start. What's wrong and where do I start looking?

I missed the sales and was late to work.

Only serious replies. Don't waste my time.

(I am sure everyone understands that I am kidding with the tone of my post. Just making fun of how some people posts questions)

Its a p.o.s., buy a deuce, preferably an A3.

Oh wait, you can't get them to start either, never-mind, buy a bus card.

It has happen to me a few times.
Here is a list of things to check.
1. Replaced battery terminal cable bolts and clean the battery cables(bad connection of battery cable to battery). This happen on two of my CUCV-II's
2. If I didn't start the truck in 5 days and left the military light switch in the on position, I would have a dead battery.
3. The battery cables have a junction box on the fire wall(drivers side) the cables were loose on the stud.
4. The PMD when bad, replace and all was good.
5. Alternator went out(your TACH will not work).
6. Bad battery, replaced.

I would start with number 1, that is what I found on two of my CUCV-II's.

More info would help. Good luck.

All of my 6.5 woes were usually a result of the PMD. It was more of a hot start issue but I've also had some that just failed. I can tell you this from experience, the optical encoder absolutley refuses to do it's job if there is waste oil in the fuel. Non tax dye never had an effect on it.

So since I don't have a cucv and won't do any reading on them, whats a PMD? Is it like PMS only for a diesel?

100,000 comics out of work and you 2 clowns are trying to be funny. PMD=FSD. PMD is pump mounted driver also referred to fuel solenoid driver. Now I'm going to Hotel Delta for Black Friday!

Did that before the GA Rally

Switch was in the off position

3. The battery cables have a junction box on the fire wall(drivers side) the cables were loose on the stud.
I'll have to check those

4. The PMD when bad, replace and all was good.
Spare PMD is in the glovebox

5. Alternator went out(your TACH will not work).
Wasn't watching the tach

6. Bad battery, replaced.
Batteries are 1 year old. I check them often with a load tester.

I would start with number 1, that is what I found on two of my CUCV-II's.

I was just posting like everyone else does. Give me answers now!!! I'm surprised no one said to read the TM. I sure wish I could find the TMs for the CUCV-II.

Truck cranks with greyish smoke out the tailpipe. Glowplugs are cycling normally. Ran the batteries down so I left it on the charger. Ran out of time to diagnose.

Try this.. loosen a fuel injector line at one of the injectors, turn the engine over and see if there is fuel coming out of the injector line. If not....it could be the PMD not working and telling the injector pump not to send fuel to the injectors.

Or did you fill-up with GAS...lol

Nope on the gas. A $100 bill for #2 last Monday. Drove Monday and Tuesday no issues.

Drove it Wednesday about 100 miles total. Then parked it. No working today.

Since I'm at work, I wonder if I can get the wife to troubleshoot for me? I know she wouldn't mind...

But I did get them to start. All four of them. Now if I can just get the CTIS to inflate 13 of the 24 tires.

Couldn't convince the wife to troubleshoot. :-(

My original PMD is still installed on the IP. I had a relocation kit with a #9 resistor in the glovebox. I was able to remove the connector and install the kit.

Now the engine cranks with no smoke. I wonder if my "new" used PMD may be bad.

Google to learn about the GM Passkey/Passlock security systems. It kills fuel delivery to the injectors!

Relearn procedure,( key ON for 11 minutes, then OFF for 30 seconds X3) and then....start engine. The Security light should be off.
