I admit it, I have not personaly taken off a wheel and changed wheel studs before!
Left hand thread, , remove wheel nuts, remove rim and tire.
remove hub center bolts and hub,
remove brake drum and wheel studs will come with it?

Do you have to heat up studs to remove?
this is where it gets foggy for me!
Don't want to do any damage to vehicle!
What are the correct steps!
Thank you in advance

I either beat the studs out with a bfh if I know I won't be re using them. My preferred way is the harbor freight ball joint c-press. My crappy half inch impact will walk them out just fine. No damage to the stud. Then to reinstall the stud I just beat them in with a bfh.

Yup. Unless your hubs are flipped. If you hubs are flipped you can do it on the truck. Unflipped you must remove the hub then unbolt the drum from the hub. Then pry them apart.

WRONG, you do NOT need to split the hub from the drum, the studs are inside the drum mounting ring, pull \the hub/drum, set on drum, drive out studs (use a center drift) if you want to reuse the stud, just a bfh if your dumping the studs, when you install the new studs flip the hub over, place two 4x4s under the stud flange, drive the studs that clear the 4x4s using a foot long piece of 1" bar or something like it and a bfh, once the studs are in, move the hub so the studs rest on the 4x4s, then drive the rest, this way is a lot faster then trying to beat the drum off

Just a guess, but I bet it's well documented in the TMs.

Actually that only applies to the front. The rears you need to split then hub and drum. Unless you have a secret on how to get a stud through the 1/4" clearance between the hub flange and drum.

The studs where stripped by an over zealus mechanic!
Were the nuts over tightened, or turned the wrong way to remove? My guess is that the nuts were turned the wrong way to remove since it happened on the left side.

Rule of thumb: to remove lug nuts, turn lug nuts toward the back of the truck no matter which side of the truck your on.

Edit: providing left studs are on left side and right studs are on right side.

Also repacked both front sides
Yes, reading and following the TMs is very easy!

Thanks for sharing your fix, it may help others in the future(Unless they can't search).

the studs are very small for the size of the truck and very easy to strip if you use an impact gun and are inexperianced or just plain stupid like the "mechanics" at one of the big truck tire places here in MD
