Yeah, just going by what they have on their site, I guess they're wrong on Boyce Eq. too. Either way it's not enough, maybe for 35 deg. and up if it really is 18k.

M151 heaters were plentiful and cheap for a while. One of these in the cab recirculating does a decent job. Consider it .

If you have a gasoline truck, I have a complete, new in the crate, fuel fired heater / winterization kit (it has a winterfront for the grill, too).

It will keep you warm. In Alaska. In the winter. In Barrow.

Sure. It doesn't care where the gas comes from as long as it gets the gas. I've even seen these things installed with a little gas tank on the left front fender. The heater itself mounts inside the engine compartment (or you can mount it any where you want). It has its own metal box to live in. It uses about an eighth of a gallon an hour.

All the information on these kits and their installation is contained in the following manual:


TM 9-2320-209-35, Change 1, page 316, Para 354.

I saw a deuce on craigslist that had something there above the spare can, it covered up the a/c hole, I asked the guy if that was a gas heater install and he wasn't sure. I'll see if I can post a link. The m151 sounds promising, and I see some for fairly cheap. Of course I haven't even bought a deuce yet, I'm probably getting ahead of myself, it might already have one. Just assuming it doesn't worst case scenario.

That is how I have my truck now, the jerry can on the drivers step feeds my heater, works great and like said they don't use very much fuel per hour of run time so using mine ALL the time it still takes me 2 weeks to run it down enough to have to put more in the can. If you don't drive your truck very much 5 gallons might last you a month or 2.

I have the diesel heater that should be on the deuce......I have only run it on #2 diesel or kerosene

Before I found this arctic kit, I was originally going to use the gas one as I knew a guy with one cheap....but then found the whole kit.

And this is why home electric furnaces and other home appliances that create heat run on 240volt circuits instead of 120v and hair dryers max out most any home 120v outlet.

don't care what your heater says, 1080 watts, 24 volt x 45 amps, is 3685 btu/hr. you will be very cold. for the electric heater to be 18,000 btu at 24 volt, it would have to draw 219 amps.

for your heater to be 18,000 btu it would have to be 5274 watts and that is 24 volts x 219 amps approx

Right, overcompensation just to get a comfortable level in the deuce. How bad are the stock heaters? If you were to put a BTU rating on them? I haven't read much about the water heater units, how do the stock heaters work? Are they electric or water? Of course where I'm at the average temperature in the winter is probably 32. It does get down to 0 once or twice but not that bad usually. This year's been a little colder.
The stock heaters are OK when they are installed correctly, some were/are not.
They are 30 KBTU.
They get hot coolant from the engine, pass it through a heater core, a DC fan blows it into the cab.
The heat source is coolant, the fan is electric.

I thought about just getting a propane heater and setting it on the floor on the passenger side. Probably not the best idea, or maybe keeping it in the bed and piping it through the cab window.

Only if you want to go to sleep when you drive, if you can't find any other way, a generator in the bed with a 120v heater in the cab works well. I did that on a -6 deg. day for a 923a2 recovery.

Actually I don't think it'd be safe or legal for propane but the m151 or gas heater I'll probably look into if mine doesn't have one installed already. Too much carbon monoxide in that small of a compartment.

My heater came out of a wrecked airplane, correction- it is a ( Janitrol out of a Cessna twin engine plane not a Stewart Warner ), it is a 50K btu unit that I run on the low heat level of 30K.
