I have a mep-005 and the low fuel light came on while running so i hit the primer switch and nothing happened, then fliped the battle switch and fuel pump runs, is there a fuse or something to look for?
When the fuel pump does run on battle it still wont push fuel out the line just dribbles, took the line off to the tank and the pump has some suction. blew out then line to the tank and it is clear any body know what else may be the problem? thanks

I am having a similar problem. I thought it might be the floats in the day tank, but I didn't get too far into it yet. I was going to wait until it warmed up.

Hi,

Let's see if we can help you. I am making the assumption that you have the utility Version of the MEP005A

For reference I am working with diagram:

FO-7 DC Troubleshooting Diagram Change 18 FO-7
from Manual MEP005A TM-5-6115-465-12.pdf page 330

It seems you are having a problem with the solenoid L2, which fills the day tank.

Troubleshooting:

1. If the generator set fuel tank is being used, place the START-RUN-STOP switch in the RUN position and the BATTLE SHORT switch in the ON position. Check
the fuel level gauge for sufficient fuel indication.

2. Leave the START-RUNSTOP switch in the RUN position and the BATTLE SHORT switch in the ON position a sufficient length of time to ensure that the day tank
assembly contains enough fuel for starting.

3. Locate Terminal Board TB 102 Terminal 18 in the Special Relay Box

4. Check for ~ 24 Volt DC - this is the Voltage supply for the two Fuel Pumps B2 and B3

5. Locate CR27 Rectifier Assembly

6. Check for ~ 24 Volt DC on Wire# "P69A" and "P77A" which are connected to CR27

Please report back of what you find. Then I can tell you were the problem is.

thanks for the reply, I dont have a fuel gauge it is missing,it is too cold right now to look into it right now, the fuel pump does run with battle sw on but will not run with primer switch. the fuel pump may be bad also because the fuel just dribbles out when the pump is running.

Clogged screen??
That is what I was thinking, most likely the screen in the fuel pumps is really clogged up I would take those both out and clean them. They just twist unlock and pull apart at the bottom is a screen on both of them that should be cleaned out. Then Id check and make sure your solenoid valve on the day tank is opening up to allow fuel into the tank. If it is not then id check and make sure your float switch is working properly by checking it with a multi meter.

I just looked at it a little today, the screens must have been gelled up,took the line off to pump put little anti gel in it and it pumped good with the battle switch on still does not pump with primer switch but the day tank may be full didn't really check that. started the gen up and it ran for an hour without a problem.
the one battery must been bad because i keep having to jump that one, changed out the battery and fires right up on its own, may have been the problem with the pump also.

The primer switch has nothing to do with the fuel pumps. It simply activates a solenoid that allows ether to be injected into the motor for really cold starts. That is what that hose clamp and fitting are for next to the day tank. Glad you got er running.
