HMMWV tub blueprints

That's what I thought, a lot of steel replacing aluminum and fiberglass. No reason you'd have to do it exactly like that though, a mig can weld aluminum with the right filler wire and gas.

I've looked at those plans before as well as some of the other hmmwv kit cars out there. I just can't see putting that effort into the kit when you loose the independent suspension of the original. Now if someone was making a kit body and bolt in independent front and rear axle then you'd have something.

Personally, I'd rather not have the IFS/IRS, inboard braking, gearboxes and other such things. They're a pain to work on.

I honestly have a totally different idea. I plan on sitting the tub onto a deuce and a half that has been bobbed as well as putting a smaller engine into it.

That would be a very interesting and I think rather cool idea. I wonder if you could find a body tub with out the frame for less money than the kit ones? Also look at Urban Gorilla they will sell you the tub kit with all the metal etc.

I know where a rolling chassis with a tub that needs a lot of work is. But there's probably going to need to be some sheetmetal massaging here and there anyhow with this idea. Hopefully I'll hear a price today.

Patracy, I too am very interested in the basic measurements and angles of a Humvee tub. I have spent many hours online searching and only came up with 130" wheel base.The tm don't really show much either,but there are some good drawings in them,that maybe could be scaled. Maybe you could convince someone with acess to an actual Humvee to make a few measurements and post them with a drawing from the tech manuals. The tremor plans probably would be great but not 550 dollars great.

I'm actually looking at a real HMMWV body now. I wish I had the ability to draw in cad or had the cad prints. I'd have no problem in measuring things.

I'd love to have the space and equipment to be able to do this to mine and envy that aspect of your effort. It's definitely a job well done.

I'd have to argue that point. While the IRS/IFS is neat for off road. I've had/have plenty of IFS 4x4s and loathed every one of them. Toss gearboxes and inboard brakes into the mix and it'd probably grow to hate. But that's why there's so many things out there for everyone. I believe that I can gain better ground clearance with my plan than even a HMMWV has stock. Plus I'd have bulletproof axles under it. The trade off being the lack of independent suspension. I will be adding a locker to the rear and lockout hubs up front to mine. I'm actually now kinda kicking around the notion of a four link setup. Oh and I have my eyes on a real deal hmmwv tub. I'd consider putting it back as completely a hmmwv, if it weren't for the rotten frame and tons of drivetrain parts missing. (it's also missing a lot of sheetmetal)

Wayne Harris down in Baxley had a yard full of HMMWV soft tops, soft doors and troop seats. Personally, I think the plan is genius. Could be much fun.

I've looked at that build a couple times. With that much steel in the tub you could add some bracing and build it similar to a unibody to save some weight. Integrate some 2x4 or 2x6 frame rails into the tub, a 4 link rear axle, and an independent long travel 4wd front axle. Hmmwv with 16" of suspension travel anyone?

Gotten no where honestly. The tremormuv guy hasn't responded to any messages. Kinda makes me not want to even spend the $50 for the preview CD.

That tremor guy just seems to proud of what he has done. Plus his design is way to overkill and heavy.$550 dollars is way to much to spend for just a few measurements as I probably would change a lot of his desigh anyway.
