M101A2 Brake line

I need to find a place to make me a 6-8" piece of brake line with the fittings to put on the trailer so it's safe to use to dump. I found that 3/8" brake line is what I want but what size/type of fittings do I need put on the ends?

I need to do this ASAP so as soon as I figure out what size I need I can call around to find a place that makes custom lines up.

Napa or equipment dealers like John Deere or Caterpillar typically have the the machines to make hoses and brake lines.

You are aware that the M101s are not designed to be used as dump trailers. The frame is not designed to do that.

There are a few people that do use them as dumpers.

Also, if you keep bending the brake lines to dump, they will break. Might want to double check the size as well. MIne are 3/16"

The A-frame to frame mount will break eventually if used as a dumper.

That's the point of putting a flex line in to prevent this from happening.

I'll look into this option. After I dump it once I'll go over to see what I need to do to make one.

Proper terminology is everything. You need a brake hose not a break line. The steel brake lines are 3/16". Tell the counter guy you need a brake hose at the length you want with 3/16 female flare fittings at each end. You wiill need to reflare the steel lines where you cut it to install the hose.

I did quite a bit of hunting around before I posted this thread. In my search I found someone who did what I'm trying to do. Apparently there's a coupling right at the pivot point for the brake line. All they did was unscrew the coupling, and add a 6" loop of flexible brake 'hose' with fittings on it. All they did was screw it on and top off the brake fluid. I'll try to find a pic for those of you who probably need pictures to learn.

So are you looking for a break or brake line? All my break lines are broken but my brake lines are all good.

You mean the TM has the information in the parts section that will help find the size of the brake line for the M101A2?

A - You would have to find the manual, TM 9-2330-202-14&P

B - then you would have to lookup the UOC (Usable on Code) for the M101A2, Section E-5, page E-7 - UOC 263

C - then look for the diagram with brakes lines, Figure 11

D - find the entry for the brake line coupling (the part you want to replace with the hose) Item #4, part number 142449

E - look in the appendix for the NSN that crosses to the part number - 4730-00-278-8853

E - then google the NSN on some of the best websites for finding parts info, www.partstarget.com, www.tpub.com, www.wbparts.com.

F - see that the link DH posted is the same you would have found.

G - Read the item specifications for find the info - 3/8" inverted flare with 42 degree seat angle.

That is a lot of work. It may be easier to learn with pictures.

Yes.

I mean, it has the NSN(national stock number) and the manufacturers number and the part number.

With one of those 3 numbers, you can often find all the details of an item(part) with a Google search.

My favorite site is PartTarget. All the info needed is listed there(usually).
