Removing PTO off of M939A2 series trucks, any trick to it?

The PTO bolted to the transmission has basically zero clearance between it and the frame, which means it can't be removed with the transmission in its current location. I am thinking about pulling the two bolts that are in the rear transmission mount and let the rear of the transmission drop down, hopefully it will drop enough to remove the PTO. Does anyone know if this will work? I hate to go through the trouble if it won't work.

I do know there is one mounting bolt inside the PTO you have to take lose to get it off. I have not removed one from the trans on the truck, looks like it will be a bear!!!!

In answer to similar questions I asked, was told that it is possible to remove the PTO unit with the transmission in place, just really tight (obviously). Haven't gotten around to it, so can't speak from experience.

I had a slightly larger Chelsea Powershift I put in and had to move the trans to get it in. Unbolt, jack up and inch and jack over an inch in order to have enough wiggle room. Not a fun job

I have removed 2 ptos from M939 trucks. Its a job but it will come off without moving the trans.
A1's or A2's? I can say for a fact that unless I pulled the studs out of the transmission first (which I don't think is possible) that there is absolutely zero chance the PTO will come off with the transmission in it's current location. The PTO location on an A1 is a little different and appears it would be easier to remove.

After the responses here at least it seems that with a little extra work it WILL come off, I am fine with that, I just wanted to make sure it would come off without removing the transmission.

On my a1 I used bolts for the 12 and 6 positions and studs for the side 4. No way with studs is there room, at least withthe powershift pto

There are no studs on an A2 PTO. Just bolts and yes one is hidden inside and requires a long allen head socket wrench. Since long allen head sockets are somewhat of a specialty I made my own from a typical standard length short allen head socket by just removing the allen head shaft and getting a longer one by cutting it from a typical L shaped wrench then re inserting it in the socket head of the shorter standard length one. Its been a while but I think the allen head is 5/16. And you can get the PTO off while installed in the truck but it requires some patience. By the way don't forget to acquire a 6 bolt tin cover so you can seal up the trans when your done.
