Question about my M35A2 out of depot in 1990

I have 2 questions about my recently purchased M35A2 multi-fuel deuce.
Question 1: The stamped plate on the dash has no date of manufacture. This is one of the first questions my insurance company as well as the state asks in order to get title.
It shows the VIN# 0589-14041, CARC 9/90, and 04N15571. Does anyone know how to establish the actual year of build for this truck?

Question 2: My turbo doesn't whistle as I'm told that my LDS engine is a "D" series rebuild and only the "C" series are considered to be the "whistler diesels". I love the sound of the whistler. Can I purchase a c series turbo (whistler) and replace my "D" series with a simple bolt on exchange, or are there other variables such as timing etc., that I'll run into. What I'm asking is it a simple remove and replace or is it going to turn into a cluster?

Thanks

What year is on the title or bill of sale, you didn't buy a truck without a tile? Post up a picture of the data plate on the right side of the dash.

The easiest thing is go to VIN thread and fill out the info Carnac asks for http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?118697-2014-VIN-Info-Thread

Whistler are nice hearing them coming or going but (to me anyways) get old fast after being in the cab for awhile.2cents

The turbo can be swapped out with no other modifications or setting changes. It is quite a simple task so long as you have some mechanical aptitude and experience.

You're probably looking at a 1971 production date. Carnac can give you a detailed history of your truck.

Look at the contract number on the data plate. There will be two numbers in there such as -69-, -70-, -71-. That is the year your truck was built. My deuce has a LDS and a C turbo. I enjoy the sound of the C.

The bill of sale is from August of this year. I purchased it from a guy who purchased it out of the Amarillo Texas depot in in 1996 and has been using it on his ranch and never had a need to title it or to license it, He's short on cash, so I bought it from him - no title. From what I understand, the military/GSA,/GL doesn't issue titles when they auction their trucks/

Drivers choice, either way on a long drive, growl or growl and whistle, hearing protection is a must.

Thanks for the link to Carnac

Thanks for that. I'm mechanically sound when it come to a part swap out. Ask me to re hone a cylinder or mill a part from scratch and I'm lost. Is there a different part number for the c series vs. d series turbo

Yes. The C is the earlier turbo and the D is the latter. The C doesn't flow as much and doesn't have as good of seals as the D. The difference isn't night and day, so don't sweat the minor details if you need it to whistle.

Post a pic of your turbo, I might be able to find a C and be willing to trade.

If you bought it without title you can just forget ever registering it legally. If the original owner never even applied for sf97 then that is doubly so. Yes the turbos are different part numbers.
And no, they don't issue titles, they issue a CERTIFICATE to title, and you have to apply with that.

That's not necessarily the case. The number you speak of is the contract date. While the truck cannot be older than the contract date, the contract usually spans several years.

My 1972 truck has a 1970 contract date.

I found in mine the "D" to be louder when going down the highway at 50 mph. The "C" was loud at low speed going through the gears but got quieter on the highway.
