Specific Application for this AC Unit?

Anyone have the knowledge as to what the specific application this AC unit is for? My plan is to use it in my 30x40 shop, which would have been a whole lot easier prior to moving my MEP003 to the back of the property near the power pole for emergency power. Now I'll either have to move it back or, shhhh don't tell the wife, buy another generator.

While I don't need to know it's original purpose I'm curious as to how the military used it.

I might add, that at 280lbs+ (cardboard surrounding it was about 20lbs), it was not the easiest thing to get out of the back of my F250.

It looks like the ones on the front of the XM971 trailer. There were 4 of them across the front. Someone is building a camper from one, may be worth a look.

It is only 1.5 tons output. My 1000 sq ft house required 2.5 tons. I only have 8 foot ceilings. A large shop like yours would need at least 4 to 5 tons if you have high ceilings.

10' ceilings and well insulated. I'm getting by now with a 4000 BTU window unit. It doesn't keep it icy but better than the 95+ outside.

Do you have 3 phase at the shop? Unit is 3 phase power.
That's the reason I mentioned regretting moving the MEP003. I could run it in 3 phase to run the AC but it's at the back of the property now. I'm not in the shop that often or that long so I could run it enough to cool things off and then shut it down, or if I'm going to make a day out of it just use it as a reason to test the gennie.

They look similar. Here's a thread with some pics of the van.
Yeh I'm pretty sure those are the same. That's a heck of a lot of weight to throw on the front of that. The trick now is for me to find a power cord for it and get it hooked up to the generator to check it out. Of course I would get this at the tail end of summer. We're supposed to drop into the low 90s by the weekend and that's nearly jacket weather.

they look EXACTLY like the 4 that came on the front of my M971 trailer..
Wow! 1040lbs of AC units? Seems like it'd rip the wall of the trailer apart.
you should see the reinforcing on the front wall of the trailer.. the front wall is made of a grid of 2"X4" box Aluminum spaced every foot..

also look really close, the ones i had also put out heat..

I have two of those that have had the freon removed & replaced in one unit. They are 3 phase on all components, so your military genset is a must. Good luck with getting them to cool well in your plans. My genset would never even spin over the fans, muchless the compressors, probably the fault of the gensets ability to work correctly!
