Extra Oil and Larger Filter for the 6.2

if you plan to keep your truck forever it might be. If you change your oil yourself it makes it worth it in convenience.
I think adding and extra oil cooler does you best for capacity and change it ever 3 to 5 k max and you will be fine.
I spent the money on my duramax but made it up by using the amsoil and only changing it every 15K.

I do not plan on getting it for my 1009. I am not planning on getting 500k out of it like I was my duramax.

The OP was looking for something to increase filtration and oil capacity, I was just offering an option that I had experience with.
I did not bother to look at the current cost.

Well after reading the posts here and all over the net, I think I have an idea. Rather then an expensive remote filter set up . Just upgrade to a high volume oil pump and simply use the large Napa filter the original OP was talking about. Then you get the best of both worlds adequate oil pressure, more oil capacity, more filtration ,and it didn't cost an arm and ah leg. And with the better pump you could essentially also run an oil cooler and not worry about losing oil pressure....Just another theory:idea:

Some people overthink things.
Seems to be pretty common on anything mechanical or electrical.

My only concern would be a longer filter hanging low on a truck that sees offroad service. A longer filter never drainsback so you have no pressure issues on start up and increased service life with more filter pleats. This is why I installed the longest Stanadyne fuel filters on my truck because it is simply a bigger filter period. I also have the largest 500 series Racor on my boat because you can't mess around with a single screw boat in a seaway. More filter capacity is better, don't abuse it by leaving it on longer!

What is everyone using a 6.2 for that it needs a high volume oil pump?

Unless you are installing a twin turbo and having it balanced to spin 8,000rpms, you have no need for a "high volume" oil pump. Again, don't re-engineer the entire system. Put the larger filter on and go, simple as that. Not rocket science...only cuck vee science here.

The only truck that might have that problem would me a Deuce where the oil filter empties out when the engine is off. It takes longer to build up oil pressure.
Spell check, be, not me! lol, just playing! No offense intended!

As I said, I have been using the larger filter and the extra oil for a cpl years. I have done mild off roading and have never had an issue. You are only talking about 1 quart diff.
As to the high volume pump, my gov. re-power NA 6.5l had the high volume pump originally. I do not know if all of the gov. 6.5s and 6.2s did or not. You can tell by a "spacer" between the pump cover and body. It allows for taller gears and more volume moved. I am unsure if there is a diff. in spring rate for the check ball spring.

Again , pick the stock location type filter you want to use and run with it.

I prefer Wix (napa gold) or Donaldsons.
I despise Fram and most other parts store finds. Just my 1/2 cent worth. (especially if better filtration is your goal)

There is a filter out there that has a by-pass section built into it , mounted in the stock location and was only a bit longer than stock. I started running those but still did 5k oil changes. Of course I got rid of the truck before I could tell if they were making a difference in keeping the oil clean.
I'll see if I can find the brand again.

I ran the numbers for doing a bypass on my 7.3PSD a few years ago.
The short version is this , changing 2 gallons of oil would take an eternity to recoup the cost with basically no benefit.
If you'd like to debate supposed benefits of extended change intervals and bypass filtration on 2 gallon oil changes , lets have at it.
