I've been fighting with the hood on my blazer since I got it. I pull the release and sometimes it 'pops', sometimes it wouldn't. I also noticed that the front edge of the hood seemed to be high like it was partially sprung. Just before hunting season, I was driving to the store and the hood looked sprung, as usual, but I thought it was par. At about 30 MPH in suburbia, my hood popped up and blinded me. I saw it begin to lift so I was able to stop before tearing up my hinges. Enough of that...

Looked in the TM- yes, I know ... found the fix. Two screw bolts on the hood latch had worked their way loose and the adjustment was too high. I used a little loc-tite and screwed them down to the right height. While there I lubed the latch with White Lithium Spray and lubed the striker all around.

Now a pull of the latch and my adjusted hood springs free. Best of all there is no guessing that the hood is closed.

Why did your externally operated safety latch not keep the hood from flying open?

Good question. Maybe it had something to do with the latch being to high? Or just a freak bump in the road that allowed the hook to slip past.:cookoo:
