Not came from the factory with but was a Cummins / GM approved conversion company that did factory approved upfitting to these trucks. Echo is referring to that. Like Shelby mustang was not factory in the 60's and 95 Chevy Camaros were upfitted from coupes to convertibles after they left the GM factory. Harmon Harrington done heavy duty 4WD conversions on trucks after the factory. Now Quigley will upfit your van to 4WD with factory approved and warranted parts. You get my/his point? He is refferring to an after market GM approved and warranted upfit that could be done. Maybe not many were done. But if the man says he saw them and has an article reffering to it I beleive it. Stranger things took and take place in the automotive industry.

What is hard for me to wrap my head around Is if people know about a Cummins diesel option when buying there brand new truck there would have to be a few examples left. God knows there tons and tons of 6.2s still running around but yet only 3 seen since the option was introduced.

I Would love to see some mone info on this, Im going to do some research and see what I can come up with

I stated the engine was available when ordering a new vehicle straight from the Chevy/GMC showroom which is correct. If you had read the other linked thread I told of the 3 Cummins equipped trucks I had seen in person getting service at the local Cummins dealer. They were a special order truck. The Cummins refit facility was in Indiana.

I have the complete Chevy/GMC option book for this item which I do not let out of my sight. It has won me a lot of bets!
I'm sorry then for carrying on with my posts. I was going off of this which to me sounds like I go in to a GM dealer back in 86', order a new K30, then check the box for a Cummins and poof...one shows up on the car carrier like the rest of them. To me that is what a production vehicle goes through during assembly. I don't think I would consider a Quigley or AEV Jeep a production vehicle because it is 3rd party. A Shelby more likely because they produced them by the thousand and I'm pretty sure you ordered it through the Ford dealer.

Gm will always be ridiculed for its early history with diesels, but they were the ones that stepped up to the plate and gave it a shot. I think they succeeded. What more could the Army want in a truck in the '80s? And I'm glad that it wasn't Ford or Dodge.

This thread is a great read, A lot of good info here.
The best part was the statement that the Duramax isn't much better than a 6.2. Very interesting!:cookoo::cookoo:

There are some interesting discussion points here. However, the base must be recognized that we are dealing with a rather late middle aged military vehicle. No comparison what so ever to my Dad's Ford powerstroke. Well, he still pays over $300 a month and repairs to the last one he had involved cab removal....anyway, I digress...

Gentlemen, as any of us who drive and maintain these rides for more than 100 miles a week would attest, they are labors of love. Not symbols of GM's best diesel engine ever. Every Range Rover, Volkswagon, Camaro, Mustang, Jeep, enthusiast I have ever met spends a lot of time under the hood wondering why something isnt working right,what that noise is or why this engine sucks - or pays someone else to wonder. Either way, We all love it when it drives!

I promote the 6.2 hater contingent. I applaud their efforts to minimize and ridicule this engine. This effort is what keeps the cost of these engines within my budget.

I would love to see a C/K (or later R/V) style truck with a factory Cummins engine. Forget the order book propoganda, how about photos of one on the showroom floor (that means lots of bell bottoms and large mustaches in the photo), an OEM repair or wiring diagram referencing it, etc. Just because someone has a book saying it was available doesn't mean one has been manufactured as a production vehicle.

Now I believe that a larger GM chassis like the P-van (step van) bread truck vehicles may have gotten a large production refit from gas or 6.2 original engines to a 4BT or 6BT somewhere down the line. I call BS on the 1 ton pickup model having them.

You can see videos of UFO's, Sasquatch, and Mermaids on TV...doesn't mean they are real.

This kind of statement is going to get this thread shutdown and members banned.

If your going to make a bold statement like this, you better back it up with some facts.

I know this is anecdotal... but I knew a guy at the sikorsky operation around here (before it closed) who drove his 6.2 diesel bronco to work every day. He said he had 300k miles on that engine and it was still going strong.

I've heard alot of anecdotes like that. Cucvrus probably had it most right: use it within it's intended envelope and it will probably give long, reliable service.

now either. I'm familiar with the agricultural and
industrial people putting whatever in equipment.
I have heard of A/C tractor engines tested in some
semi tractors in the 70's. I saw John Deere combine
engines in Bobcats in the 80's.

Yep. That's true of any machine, of any kind, from tweezers to airplanes. It's even true of the human body. Proper maintenance, and stay within design limits, and things last a lot longer.

I love my cucv m1008 call me crazy but I sold my powerstroke. It's so much cheaper to work on and I can do the repairs my self. Love it. Now u just need to find me a nv4500 to put in it.
