Standard 1969 Deuce with issue wheels + tires.
The speedometer doesn't work and the tachometer indication suspect.
I use MotionX-GPS free application on the iPhone. It seems to be very accurate.
Next time out will run it at 56mph on the GPS to see what the tach indicates.
Interesting working backwards like that.

My first deuce would run over 70 mph with 11:00 tires and a lds pump with some work. I ran it towing a M1008 from Wisconsin to Aberdeen. Gimp can attest to that appendix as when I met up with the convoy I passed the convoy like it was standing still. It drive great but she would not even think about stopping. Brakes were way under powered for that kind of speed.
My last deuce was 100% stock and I could cram 63 mph out of her with 900 tires. And yes the speedo was maxed out.
Brakes do suck at speed that is for sure. If I needed to stop in a hurry something in front of me is going to get a smashing.

You won't have to scale back your dreams. You will just have to get more creative on how you aquire them.

All this talk about getting a deuce going high speed... I hit 50 MPH the other day and was turning just about 2300. just thought i would brag that up. (joking). but then i slowed it back down to 2200 and 48mph... thats just about the sweet spot for me. Cranking the engine to 2600 just to get 4 or 5 mph does not seem worth it to me. I love going slow. I rush around in my daily life and getting behind the wheel of the deuce is one of the times i have no choice but to relax, sit back and enjoy the ride. Wouldn't trade it for anything. :)

All respect to you guys that want to go a little faster, i was just poking fun at the topic. I do hear radials ride nice though.

Oh I agree. I have been taking mine on longer trips lately and it does gobble up a lot of time. i just look at it too how much does it cost to get the extra 5-8 mph out of the truck? If I was going to do anything it would be Tom's overdrive kit. I think that is the best bang for the buck for me anyway.

Full throttle in mine at highway speed pegs the 15 PSI gauge... I must be getting 20 PSI of boost. It slams the needle if I floor it from 2200 RPM. I wish my gauge was like a 0-25 or so. It would be an oddball gauge though. My redline is 2300 though. 2200 is comfy.

I have got my truck tuned to run a max boost of 10-11 psi under any conditions. I tow a lot of really heavy stuff and have no pyrometer as of yet and I don't want to melt my engine down. Most often the relaxed boost pressure cruising is 1-3psi.

You Boner. I gave you a brand new in the box Banks 0-50psi mechanical boost gauge. Install it, know your data, and quit whining.

That's what I have now, Isspro. I have been happy with them. Ill have to check out their 30 PSI gauge...

Sorry, I would disagree. Even a 5.9 Cummins makes 18psi stock. 15-20psi would still be within the conservative safe range of the engine. The HX40 is actually good to 40psi to keep it in the 79% efficiency island.

The 5.9 was just for comparison sake. With how de-tuned a 8.3 is in these trucks, it likely would only hit 15psi of boost. But 20psi is still well within it's safe limit and only barely into the prime efficiency island of the HX40. And take a look online of various RV's and civy units. 20psi or more is very commonplace with these engines. Simple adjustments on the pump would get you into a range where you'd want a 30psi gauge.

FWIW, I ran 45psi on my 5.9 with a factory head gasket and only studs. (Valve springs as well)
