So I finally got my 1028 here and thanks to our awesome fellow member Mark, I have one Key that at lest locks the doors.
I bought a CUCV key off of the bay and it doesn't work on the doors nor the ignition. This brings me to a question. How can I get the thing working the easy way?
I tried wiggling a lot… and wiggling and turning the wheel… and wiggling and turning the wheel and swearing periodically. None worked with either Key. I even sprayed the lock with a a squirt wd40. So what's next?

Contact Recovry4x4 and get a correct key. Some of the ones on fleabay are cut wrong.

Also the ignition switch may have been changed and none of the stock keys will work

warthog, You sir, are the Man.
Thank you.
it was pretty tricky to get the truck of the trailer without steering and to get the trailer kind of in a descent position. Now the truck is in the swell and should make it onto the driveway pronto before the city gives me grief.

The key I left him was a correct cut. I had 10 made from an original and all of them have worked on a variety of CUCVs so I'm guessing his ignition has been swapped out or at least mangled to some degree that the key doesn't work.

Best thing to do is just change all three locks. Then you have the right key, and you don't have a lock that can be opened with a key that is readily available and identified with that vehicle.

Mark was a great help with his Key. The driver door is a bit bent out of shape, so I didn't even try the key there. The pass door got a dent at that spot , too, but not quite as bad.
There are some missing parts I replaced first like the missing hoses of the hydroboost to the PS gear. But Turning the Key is kind of the next thing I wanted to do.
Now I am betting a sunshining lizard that removing the tumbler of the ignition is a big time pain, am I right?

Not really.

As I recall, It is detailed in the TM, either 20 or 34.

Pretty easy actually. Helps a bunch to have a lockplate remover. Sure Autozone or the like rents them. I concur with most folks, ignition is changed or munged up.
