816 lug nuts

could not seem to break the lug nuts on the front wheel tried 3/4 impact then socket with 8 foot pipe . It is a 1970 and if i remember right they lossen clockwise on the driver side any help. Thanks

It's possible the studs are the wrong ones and you need to go the other way.

I had a 923a1 axle with 1600s on it, one side came off with just a bit of work, the other side only 1 nut would come off, even used a torque multiplier, the other 9 would not budge, gave the axle and tire back to the client as 1 unit.

Gonna need a bigger hammer, lol

No seriously, try a 1" impact or a 3/4 hammer impact. Also air supply has a big impact on how your impact performs, air line size, and how long you let in sit in some good penetrating oil.

Take a wire brush to the ends to make sure the right lugs on the right studs.

Easiest way to remember, always loosen in the direction towards the rear and tighten towards the front.

I know this may be a little tough on the paint of your wheels but add some heat to the lug nuts, just take a torch out there and heat up just the nut as much as possible, it wont take long at all then put some force to it in most cases it makes a world of difference!

Will give it a try this morning was going to use the torch tried to save the paint did try going the other way on more than one but no luck. thanks for the replies

I got tired of paying $20 at the truck tire place just to remove those frozen nuts, so now I just put on a 1 1/2" impact socket, a long handle, a pipe over thst, then get in and drive about six inches, snd rock it until it breaks. Once the frozen nut is broken loose, you can screw away.

Thanks for the replies 1 inch impact did not work we heated the nuts up got a few off took a die grinder and cut one off the front nuts off had to chisel the rest of the nut off seems someone put loctite on the threads every one of them had it in the threads. NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO THE REAR.

Heat neutralizes locktite. IIRC, all of them are nullified at 700F.

How to Remove Red Threadlocker

It can be difficult removing Loctite® red threadlocker, and it’s a common vehicle maintenance question. While the strength of our red threadlockers is formidable, and meant to be a permanent assembly method - don't believe the myths... red threadlocker can be disassembled with the right technique.
When disassembling red threadlocker the process is a little different than for other threadlockers. The key is to apply localized heat greater than 550° F. Then, once the threaded assembly is hot, the bolt can be unthreaded. Without applying heat to the assembly, it's likely that over time, a bolt would break before coming loose.
