Fried my Alternator...can I fix it ?

I think I fried the voltage regulator. is it serviceable ? Any idea where to get one ?
I was changing the rats nest in the battery box and I screwed up and hooked the batts up backwards and I saw a quick spark and now it does not charge.

Assuming you are talking about the 60 amp unit in your deuce, reverse polarity tends to blow all the rectifier diodes. More or less unrepairable.

I took it off tonight. Local Auto electric shop said they can rebuild it most likely. He is somewhat familar as he does alot of heavy equipment and truck stuff.

I may talk to my Alt guy and see if we can come up with something else. This thing is alot of money and useless wieght IMHO for the piddly 60amps it puts out. I could save more than half the weight with a little fab and a powerline.

I put a civy alternator in one of my trucks and have the parts to do my M809 5-ton.

It tested at around 80A.

Yeah from what I read I think the Delco one is a 21si or 24si IIRC. I'm not real fond of Delco Alts though. If I can stay with a Leece Neville, I'd like to. that is just my preference from being a Truck Mechanic/owner. Had much better luck over the years with the LN's. I saw some 140 amp LN's that looked like they would need little modification to work and in the 250$ price range. I can live with that.

Kenny,
The alternator was AMA-3002AE and superseded to the AMA-5104UT which was discontinued in “2006” with no replacement

Hello,

I have a Leece Neville Alternator(it says generator but I believe it is an alternator) from a 1981 AM General M35a2c Deuce and a half 2.5 ton truck

It is 60 amp and the mount it about 7 1/4 inches long. I can find no usable part numbers on it.

Thank you,

The manufacturer may not have parts, but distributors/vendors do.
